Now that it's official, I need to ask the question that's been on everyone's mind. Was San Andreas' "Wrong Side of the Tracks" the "Water Temple" of the 6th generation?

No, unlike nintendie garbage there are multiple unscripted ways to complete GTA missions. For this mission for example, you could use your bike to leap on top of the train and shoot those guys from the roof.

You mean "were". Newer GTAs since at least 4 have a very railroaded way of completing missions and can trigger mission failure if you deviate from the planned way.

My beef with the newer GTAs as well. GTA 4 had really sophisticated physics, amazing AI, and some fun mechanics, but the missions were boring and very scripted. Vice City is the most fun GTA because most of the missions were consisted of nothing but "go to point A/B within the time limit" or "kill everyone and come back". So simple yet so fun and open ended.

Why the hell so many people had trouble with that train mission?
As soon I realized Big Smoke was shooting the side of the train, I just went a bit more to the right and it worked.
Now, the REAL shit of San Andreas was the Zero mission with the toy airplane. On the original PS2 version, there was barely enough fuel to complete that mission. It took me at least five tries and I had to take a break to chill because I was angry as fuck.

It's just because of how finnicky Big Smoke is. He uses auto-aim which means he targets the center mass of each person. So if you go too close he will end up targetting their centers but end up shooting the side of the train. Getting the right sweet spot, like pictured in the image, is the key to winning.

It's actually WAY easier to just kill them yourself, which isn't at all obvious you can even do. Something as sipmle as just ride far ahead of the train, stop, and then start shooting. You can easily get an AK or even a simple smg by that point.

That's the plot for like 10 minutes. It's just the bullshit front story that they tell CJ. The real story is that there's a massive conspriacy and things aren't as they seem. >> No.7185051

No, I have no idea why anyone finds this mission difficult. Literally all you have to do is follow the train. There's an ever so slight challenge of having to keep the right the distance from the train for Big Smoke to be able to shoot, which is the distance shown in the OP pic. Alternatively, there is at least one place where you can use a bridge to jump on top of the train if you're skilled enough, but this shouldn't be necessary if you keep the right distance because you'll complete the mission long before the opportunity presents itself. The only thing that I can see throwing someone off really badly is a scripted event where the train hits a car at one point and it explodes. I think most of notoriety of this mission comes from the mission failure screen with the notorious Big Smoke quote that would probably appear to be oversimplifying the mission to frustrated players until they figure out how to actually do it and prove itself to be true.
