If I start buying many carts of Pokemon blue and red, is there a chance I might end up with a legit Mew from back in the day in one of them?

>> No.7167526

>>7167520
That would make you certifiably retarded. A chance? Yes. Likely? Hell no. Extremely extremely rare. Luck would not be on your side. They're just fucking pixels, man.

>> No.7167531

Turn up your contrast and it's highly unlikely at this point. Gen 1 save batteries and Gen 2 save batteries are going kaput left and right so the odds of you finding one that still has a legit event Mew on it are next to none. Finding a Mew in general on a used copy isn't too terribly difficult though thanks to Mew Glitch. If you do see a Mew on a Gen 1 cart chances are it's been manipulated into the game via the glitch.

"Legit" mews are a novelty, it's so easy to hack a virtually identical one in that it doesn't matter at all.

Now the certificates, those are nifty, if you could find one.

>> No.7168550

>virtually identical

you can use a $3 dollar piece of hardware to dump a save file from your PC onto a cartridge, at that point it's trivial to make it *literal identical* to a legit mew

what are the chances some random kid who sold his old GB cart added a meticulously crafted hack Mew to make it most genuine "as a prank". Slim chances. If you happen to find a Mew on some random old cart that has a specific Mew OT, then you most likely stumbled upon a cart that received a real Mew from one of the events in 1999/2000. Either that, or clones of originals, which is still neat.

this is beyond retarded

do you realize the amount of work and cost of hardware it would be to actually transfer the mew if you found one?

you would need:
>overpriced original cart
>GB memory backup unit
>overpriced flashcart
>gameboy
>3ds with custom firmware
>pokemon bank
>pokemon home
>a copy of sh/sw

jesus christ just do the glitch in an emulator and save yourself the trouble
or buy a clone of a legit mew that came from the pokeball plus

or even easier use powersave and get the event mew

Someone made a romhack where Mew actually is under the truck, and invented a "virus" that causes the hack to spread to other copies of the game. So if you trade with a copy of the game infected by the virus then Mew will be under the truck in your game too.

The batteries that die are the ones on Gold and Silver due to the internal clock. You can change it if you can get a gamebit screwdriver to open the cart.
The Red and Blue batteries, some might be dead, but most aren't. Anyway I recommend transferring all your pokemon to Pokemon Stadium.
