What did /vr/ think of this game?

I thought it was neat with the interrogation and as an edgy child the gore was cool.

The fact that it was mediocre in 2004 shows how high standards were back then. I mean the story and presentation were no good, but the gameplay was almost as good as Max Payne 2. Crisp and weighty in a way that games aren't anymore.

It was so weird brutally murdering thousands of people and then fucking Iron Man shows up.

Played all those games as they came out, no fucking way, even then The Punisher's visals and gunplay were behind Max Payne. Graphics aside, presentation was absolutely kino.

Obvious inferiority to max payne aside, it's a great game that did some stuff in a very neat way. Amount of guns was really nice for the time, as far as I remember it was the first third person shooter to use the left click and right click to separately control the guns you are dual wielding. All the random different execution animations were nice.
Can't say anything about the ps2 port as I played it on PC.

Max Payne 2 didn't really do anything new. The Punisher did and the gameplay is equally as good.

It was like a worse Max Payne but 5x as violent. I have pretty vivid memories of the zoo level where all the enemy goons killed most of the animals because they're bad I guess.
