I know how you feel. I guess it's a kind of period piece, but you can tell there's so much heart put into it, even with the odd button timing and the varying quality performances by the VAs (most of which are now either unfortunately deceased, crazy, or dropped off the face of the planet entirely). It's all goofy but in a fun way that doesn't try to do the wink-wink-nudge "Look how silly we're being!" thing that a lot of properties fall victim to, which ends up alienating at least part of the audience, often by age; it takes its absurdity in stride, embraces it and uses it as fuel for its journey. So many of the little visual details are actually funny, too- I don't think I've managed yet to not giggle at Parappa chasing the toilet-trolley in the bathroom stage's Cool mode or Lammy's chair flipping over backwards at the start of Fusenpepper's stage. No one must know just how many songs I still have memorized or how many plays Make it Sweet! has.

It actually was pretty much intended that way, lots of press of the time called it a "virtual toy" and sort of catered it to non-gamers who wanted something easy to pick up. Worked tremendously for Parappa but it had the Wii effect of diminishing returns as few people bought Lammy & 2.
