I don't care what you tasteless swine say. It's better than the PSX games, and one of the best scotformers of the 6th gen.

Well I dunno about all that, but it definitely doesn't deserve its reputation of being completely irredeemable garbage. The GC version didn't have the glacial load times, so it was basically just a Spyro game that was short and half-cooked, earning it at least like a 6/10 by default. The new breaths were a good mechanic, the level themes were cool and creative, and the OST was on-point. I like it more than the games that came after, though Hero's Tail wasn't horrendous either. Probably the only crippling issue was that they denied you the gem finder until you beat the final boss the first time.

The community genuinely thinks the second game is the best. The one with unnecessary metroidvania elements that let you replay levels over and over while also reseting every progress in them. Do you really think those retards would appreciate a game like that?

I'm answering now. Suck on it. It's better because:
> Better minigames
> Better graphics
> Elemental breath
But most importantly of all:
> Better level design
This is really what makes it better. The levels are bigger, more elaborate, and have more interesting themes. In the PSX games you can barely tell what the setting is even supposed to be at times. Some random island floating in the sky? OK? In ETD, every level has a clearly identifiable theme and atmosphere.
>>7136386
The GC version also runs at 60fps, or at least targets it, meaning you can run it at 60 in Dolphin. Unlike the PS2 version that runs at 30.

Spyro ETD was one of my top played games as a kid. I genuinely considered it a great game and still do. I was baffled when I saw all the hate it gets on the internet. Aside from the bugs it's a great game.

This thing is pure dogshit. Spyro died with the PS1. A Hero's Tail is somewhat enjoyable but still nowhere near as good as the PS1 games.

>unnecessary metroidvania elements that let you replay levels over and over
What do you mean by this?
>Glimmer - need climbing
>Idol Springs - need swimming (if you don't do Colossus first and buy it beforehand, that is)
>Sunny Beach - need climbing
>Summer Forest - need climbing
>Fracture Hills - need headbash
>Shady Oasis - need headbash
Each of those levels can be like 95% completed before you leave the first time. The bit in Glimmer can even be bypassed with minimal effort without exploiting a glitch or anything. Meanwhile, 3 blocks off entire portions of the level until you buy the character.
>Molten Crater - need Sgt. Byrd
>Bamboo Terrace - need Bentley
>Fireworks Factory - need Agent 9
>none of the four Sparx levels can be played when you first find them, have to beat the next boss first and immediately return
>deprived of the gem finder until you beat the 2nd Sparx level, meaning you might have to return to a level if you couldn't find all the gems on the first visit: meanwhile, you have it from the start in 2
And that's not counting if it's your first time playing or you just forget and don't do shit in the optimal order.
>go right into Sunny Villa and have to come back after buying Sheila
>go right into Enchanted Towers and have to come back after buying Sgt. Byrd
>go right into Frozen Altars and have to come back after buying Bentley
>go right into Haunted Tomb/Dino Mines and have to come back after buying Agent 9
>do Lost Fleet after the cutscene where Hunter is captured and have to come back later for the skateboarding section
It takes probably a minute apiece to run through 2's levels again and kill the enemies, without worrying about recollecting the gems or doing the other orbs. Mario 64 makes you replay each course 6 times and prevents you from fully completing the first few until you unlock the caps, and Crash makes you replay earlier stages after you unlock the gems later, and Spyro 2 is somehow horrible for doing the same thing?

Aren't most of the criticism of this game directed toward the fact that it barely runs? I had fun with my short trial of it otherwise.

Works fine on Gamecube. There are some major bugs, namely the one where the entire environment all disappears and you're floating in the void with enemies and NPCS, but that's easy to fix. Just keep walking and the environment will respawn eventually. I played the game many times and never got a game breaking bug.

Wrong, and no argument
> ETD looks like shit
Better than the PSX games that everyone sucks off
> An actually good addition, save for the bubble breath
Nothing wrong with Bubble breath aside from the slightly wonky hitbox, and the fact that it's difficult to hit breath and charge attack at the same time on an actual gamecube controller. But the latter issue can be fixed by remapping buttons if you're in an emulator.
> They're too big and empty.
They aren't empty at all. They're full of stuff to do.
> generic as fuck
ETD has cool levels like
> Dragonfly Dojo
> Crop Circle Country
> Luau Island
>Cloud 9
> Monkey Monastery
> Honey Marsh
> Thieves Den
> Jurassic Jungle
The PSX games just have
> Random floating island #19
