>>7128457
Oof.
The frame timing change makes scrolling distracting and jumpy. Also the image is upscaled without nearest neighbor so pixels are distorted and the quality is overall bad.
GBI has 2-3 extra frames of latency. If you want to get rid of most of the latency and be <1ms, you no longer have ideal refresh rate (59.7275hz) because the 59.2775hz refresh rate of the GBA screen does not match the 59.94Hz NTSC refresh rate of standard displays, so you have to compromise by either adjusting the framerate to match the 59.94hz standard at the expense of input latency or retain the original speed at the expense of unsynchronized refresh rates.

There is this device called a Super Retro Advance Adapter which allows you to play GBA games with a SNES. It has its own composite output which can be plugged into an OSSC Koryu, but it is mono only. As a bonus, if you have a RetroUSB console that plays SNES games, it does not need to use its included cable and can simply use the output of the RetroUSB console. It is not as good as GBi, but if you are on a tight budget, and want to output GBA games to a screen, it is a budget-conscious alternative.

They don't make the "Pocket" model anymore so I can't speak to that, but I have several GB Boy Colours —the d-pad is decent. Even with the wonky screen aspect ratio, for ~$30, these things are pretty rad. They're true hardware clones and I've never found an incompatible game. They pass (and fail) all the same hardware tests that a real GBC does.

I thought you were kidding. Heard stories from my coworkers about how difficult they have it hunting down the X version of the new Xbox console, sports radio mentioning the supply issues of PS5, graphics card reviews citing lack of availability, etc. This pandemic has created some far reaching shortages. I had thought the Advance adapters would continually be sold cheaply as it seems to have been meant to, but duckduckgo searches come up empty now even from Retrobit themselves. I was mistaken to suggest it at this time, leaving OP with GBi, consolizer, Retron5/RetroFreak, Analogue Pocket+dock.

What the fuck is the point of collecting original games if you aren't going to buy them on real hardware and just dump the roms from the cartridge to emulate them? If you're going the route of software emulation, just download the roms for free off of the internet. Not to mention the waste of time and money involved in buying USB rom dumpers.
