What are some good games for this that aren't the usual ones? (Snatcher, Sonic CD, Popful Mail)

I got a MegaSD today and I'm looking around for good ones.

I'm not a shmup-nut or anything but this is a fun game. Kick ass tunes and varied level design with a unique system where you charge your attack by not firing to build up the strength meter (rather than holding down the fire button R-type style)

Lunar 1+2 and Silpheed should be on your list.

Lords of Thunder, Final Fight, and The Ninja Warriors got Sega CD ports too. If you want to play worse versions than your DVD/Blu-Ray player can do, there's Dragon's Lair and Space Ace.

Dark Wizard was cool.

Play Sewer Shark just to experience it. Just to say you got to experience it.

This. Now that the dust has settled, I think we can all agree that Sewer Shark is, dare I say it, the quintessential SegaCD Sega fourth-person aerial sharkformer.

Lords of Thunder is my go to Sega CD game.
Can the MegaSD mix CD Volume like a real model 1 can? Because I honestly think it is mandatory for the system. Music levels are mixed way too low in pretty much every Sega CD game.

It's one of the better FMV Games at least. It's what I thought the future was gonna be. A fun curiosity in this day and age, but a definitive Sega CD experience in it's own time.

My understanding is you need a separate 32x unit to play 3x games, right? My question is why couldn't they FPGA 32x architecture if they could FPGA the Sega CD bit?

Is the audio better through the headphone jack or the audio plugs in the back of the sega cd? I have one but I'm not sure which is better.

If you have the console, the proper set up is to run a standard audio cable from the headphone jack to the "mixer" port on the Sega CD, then audio out from the CD to your stereo system. This lets you adjust the sound of effects using the Genesis volume bar, effectively giving you audio mix control in Sega CD games. Doesn't work if the music is also FM Synthesis, though.

the music is freaking great. The main title theme has a cock-rock cheesiness to it but the rest of the tracks on there are total ear-worms and I hum some of them to this day.

It does not have good graphics for a Sega CD game. It would be acceptable for PC Engine.

>This. Now that the dust has settled, I think we can all agree that Sewer Shark is, dare I say it, the quintessential SegaCD Sega fourth-person aerial sharkformer.

It was the pack-in game with the Sega CD for quite a few years in North America. John Dykstra, who did miniature effects for Star Wars: A New Hope and many other big budget special effect movies and TV shows directed this game. It was filmed in 1988 according to Tom Zito. I think they said it cost $4 million US dollars to produce. But the game itself is weird and shallow. The 3DO version is much easier on the eyes. :P The low colour palette of the Sega CD really hampered FMV video.

Batman Returns is pretty fun for the 2D scaling driving levels, if you shut off the 2D stages. But hard. Silpheed is also a nice use of the hardware. Lunar 1 and 2 are worth playing. If you want to see the games in their original (well, Working Designs translation) format. Robo Aleste is good. Android Assault too. Shining Force CD is a remake of the GameGear Shining Force games.
