Geese Howard is my favorite fighting game Antagonist. He's just damn cool. Happened to him after Fatal Fury and going onto Garou: Mark of the Wolves? Is he really dead? I get confused with what is cannon with all the different fatal fury sequels, and then King Of Fighters throws me off too. Did he stay immortal with the Jin Scrolls or something?

I was deep into Street Fighter II when I saw it the first time, like everyone else. Very, very nice presentation and ending. Some surprises like Tung Fu Rue and Wha Jai transformations and a soundtrack on par quality-wise with SFII but way more metal. That original SF dev really did good in his debut at SNK.

I appreciate the grab button cause it removes the accidental throws in fighting games but I always felt grabbing and throwing should be triggered by control inputs like any special moves.

I'm not sure to this day what to think about the two-lane stages, but people would not think of Garou as a second opinion to SF if the two-lane mechanics persisted through the franchise, that's for sure. Hell, maybe even height gaps in stages.

What I don't like: sounds of punches and kicks hitting always felt weak, as in all SNK fighting games. At least compared to SFII.

09/10 fighting game, I guess. Coming from a time hits doesn't flooded the screen with colorful explosions. You could even see your attacks hitting the opponent.

Fatal Fury 1 isn't really considered the best of the series or close, but it's at least much better than Street Fighter 1.
Fatal Fury 2 and Special is when it got really fucking good.

Found out about this series last year with Terry's Smash announcement. The day Terry was announced I bought KoF 96 and Real Bout Fatal Fury for my Sega Saturn and instantly fell in love. Once I was accustomed with those games I was actually rooting for certain characters and songs to appear in the Smash DLC and when the full rundown video came out I was able to appreciate his inclusion a lot more than I would have had I not taken the time to get to know the series. Fatal Fury/KoF is what I'd consider to be my favorite series of fighting games now. Fatal Fury fucking rocks.

I believe KOF (and Real Bout too) are made under the concept of "dream match", that's why certain characters that are canonically dead (like Geese) come back.

Thanks anons, I figured as much that he was dead, but the installments are confusing: FF, FF2, FF Special, FF3, Real Bout FF, Real Bout FF Special, Real Bout FF 2. With these names and numbers I thought it retconned itself. So thats it for Geese huh, but I guess it is cool because if he stayed alive it'd be a mess like Tekken with the Mishima family and legacy characters that kept coming back even though so much time has passed.
With King of Fighters I always noted with each installment most characters looked the same and not really aged, as well as Art of Fighting being some time before Fatal Fury.

afaik, the numbered ones are "canon", whle the special ones are dream match/alternate.
Real Bout in general is dream match though, only the "Fatal Fury" standalone titles should be canon. Basically FF, FF2 and FF3.

That is good to know. I now want a revival of the series in modern graphics, but still the same storyline. I wouldn't mind a namco and snk collaboration, I do like how Geese plays in Tekken 7.
Also: Shinkiro's art is timeless, I can't get enough of it.

Fatal Fury is great. The last of the old boss-rush (?) fighters before every character had to be selectable and balanced. Just dosen't happen any more unless its punch-out.

SNK is now a really small company. KOF XIV was for them a success even with those sales and after 4 years they only gave us Samurai Shodown and don't expect XV soon (2 years).
So have patience.

For whatever reason, Terry Bogard is my favorite fighting game character. Geese Howard is my favorite fighting villain.

I love the story of revenge in an otherwise fairly low stakes environment.
