The real winners of 5th gen were N64 and Saturn combined. Together they offer better stuff than what the buff new guy offered.

I don't care I just want to say that pre-Frieza Dragon Ball has such a good art style + colors. I don't know why, I just fucking love it. Dr.Slump too but I prefer the manga

Not surprised.
I was thinking more along the lines of Piccolo being Nintendo and Goku being Sega. 2 old rivals who had to fight a powerful new threat, and one of them dies in the process.

>> No.7112236

Americans don't know that they were rivals. For them anything before Saiyan/Vegeta bullshit doesn't exist for some reason

Sega wasn't more powerful than Nintendo, though.

>> No.7112249

Well I'm not from USA, I watched DB first.
Still, it was evident that they were rivals though, they even say how they have to forcefully join forces to fight Raditz, and then when Goku dies and Piccolo takes Gohan with him, Krilin and the others go in panic mode, Piccolo's not a friend (at that point).

>> No.7112258

>>7112249
Piccolo was never really a friend as far as I remember. He was the original Shonen Jump edgelord antihero even before Vegeta. It's been a while since I watched Dragon Ball though, I don't even remember how Piccolo died

>> No.7112267

>>7112258
The main thing with Piccolo is that him (or rather, his father) was known as basically The Devil, which was kinda true since he was the embodiment of God's bad or impure side, whatever. But then I think things change when he becomes Gohan's master, and Piccolo/Kami's origins are revealed, he's not a monster or a demon/god, he's an alien and there's many like him. In Namek, Piccolo also fuses with that other namekian warrior, and at that point he's basically a total Earth ally and a Z senshi, he's a friend.

So it's better to spend more money on two consoles because they're supposed to be better combined? As opposed to buying the one console that had 3x the lifespan, 5x as many games and had everything to offer in one place?

You're a fucking moron.

>> No.7113210

Playstation=goku. Almost always wins because of plot armor. Regularly defeats new foes who are supposedly more powerful
Sega=piccolo. Supposed to be a threat, but is just a glorified jobber
Nintendo=vegita. Get oversold as this powerful force to be reached with, but glory days ARE LONG gone now just second banana to a former rival and ultimately just a top tier loser. Better than the other losers, but still a loser.
Microsoft=Broly. Supposed ultimate badass, but that always loses in the end anyway.

>> No.7113236

>>7113185
I don't think that's the point. Today you can play the whole libraries for free through emulation, or just use an everdrive on N64 and CD-R backups on Saturn and PS1.

Saturn has great racing games, great shooters, great arcade style games, great beat em ups, lacking 3D action games, great RPGs, great strategy games, great fighters
N64 has great platformers, a lot of racing games, a lot of wrestling games, popular multiplayer titles

Nah, PS1+Saturn is still the best combo, N64 just doesn't have much to offer

>> No.7113259

>>7113253
There's too much overlap between Sat and PS, N64's multiplayer alone makes it a better combo with either Sat or PS, but ultimately I'd go with Saturn for better arcade ports and 2D games.

Secret factor for the zoomies on this board: the original Dragon Ball aired before Z in the USA. Yes, it's the truth, you can google it. There is even a song called 'this isn't the tenka-ichi-budokai' by an American punk band which was recorded in like 1996

I'm not Gen Z. I watched DBZ, then DB soon after, sometimes both in one day. Technically, DB aired first in America, but home video for a non-established cartoon didn't do well, and anime was not syndicated too often then (late 80s).

The history of Dragon Ball in the west is very fascinating actually.
As far as I know the first attempt to bring DB to USA was by Harmony Gold (same guys who created Robotech out of Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada), I think they renamed the series "Zero and the magic dragon" or something, and Goku was called Zero. Some other characters also had different names, like Yamcha = Redacki.
AFAIK it did air in USA for a bit, or maybe cable TV, but it didn't go very far, I think maybe only the Pilaf episodes, or up to the tenkaichi budokai or so.
What's more interesting is that somehow, this early localization by Harmony Gold was also used for the very first attempt at localizing dragon ball in Mexico (and the rest of latin america, which gets the mexican dub), I think this was around 1995 or so. However, quickly after, Mexico did a new dub, this time with the correct names, and they continued and did the whole series, and then Z. By 1996, Dragon Ball, the original, was a hit in all of Latin America.
USA had to wait a bit more, as it wasn't until around 1999 or 2000 that DBZ started getting popular in Toonami, and the original DB, as far as I know, was like a "side-series", they didn't watch DB first, and then DBZ, something like both aired at the same time, but Z being a lot more popular.
I do remember that the Garlic Jr DBZ movie was one of the very first anime DVDs I'd seen in stores, around 1998.

Namekians are the opposite of cucks. They're basically the universe's wizards. Fully invested in knowledge and magic to care about pussy, so much so that namek pussy doesn't even exist and they can auto-procreate.
The cucked one is Goku, his son is a disciple of his old rival. Not that Goku cares though.

The relationship between them was significant enough that when the time came for his own uniform, he asked for Piccolo's instead of Goku's. Pretty fantastic. What a good kid. Piccolo is his first true master and when he needs to push himself he relies on Piccolo. Goku's Cell training was specifically for Super Saiyan.
