Thanks to the delay of the Nintendo 64, the SNES was working flat out as late as 1995 and 1996, years in which the Genesis was no longer a priority for Sega. If you put the finish line at the moment Sega shifted priorities, it was pretty much a draw game regarding global sales.

These numbers seem kinda stange to me, as all my friends had a super Nintendo but only knew one other guy beside myself that had a Megadrive (and he also had a SNES).
I know it's just my own experience of my small circle of friends, but even the vidya magazines of the time mostly were pro-nintendo.

Yeah, but as were most kids that grew up in the 80s/90s, what with the Club Dorothée and its daily hours of animu.
And around 94/96 you couldn't go a month without a vidya magazine having a DBZ cover (even when the actual games released were few and far between).
So I always took as a given that the SNES was dominating the French market.

The Genesis doing as well in the US is mainly sports games that were bought by older kids/adults. Maybe it was the same in France and there was a whole separate demographic that wouldn't cross with the SNES one, and explain why I never met them?

Kinda like nowadays where you see that the games that sell the most are yearly sports games, a genre that is not much talked about by gamers.

Not really, this discussions has been made countless of times and there's not really any actual objective reason why some of you (likely europeans, or young weebs) hate the US SNES design so much.
Both NTSC models, SFC and US SNES, are pretty aesthetic, and unlike the change with Famicom to NES, the size remained the same.

btw, I watched this episode out of curiosity, so good job shills. It was really bad. Just more of the same "hurr let's pretend to be idiotic console warriors" with an awful script obviously all written by that autist Joe. In my view SEGA, true they jobbed in Japan, But they took on Nintendo at their peak strength and market dominance, successfully penetrated the US market. Their marketing managed to give Nintendo the ever lasting label of toddler shit, they also managed to convince major third party developers to makes games for the system despite Nintendo practices of cartridge "shortages". SEGA would eventually fail to truly capitalize on their gains long term due to PlayStation being a thing that stole away all the work they had done, remove PlayStation and SEGA seriously Nintendo by the balls in November 1994 They even had the Japanese market sorted out, due to securing JRPGs and the N64 simply not being suited for those type of games hardware wise.

Buddy, the Famicom design is the most iconic design ever. Only burgers and bongs got the NES and its pointy rectangle controller, while the rest of the world was enjoying Famicom and its clones, with comfy as fuck round edged controllers and that small, compact and iconic white and red design that looks like a gundam ship.
To be fair the NES design isn't bad per se but the uncalled for bigger size and its controllers having sharp edges that make them less comfortable are con points. In difference, SFC/US SNES are designed differently in terms of aesthetics but the size remains the same, and the controller is also the same, main difference being colored buttons on SFC, and concave/convex buttons on SNES. I personally think the 2 different shades of purple, coupled with the 2 different kind of buttons (makes holding Y/X more effectively in a subtle way) are strong points in favor of US SNES, but the colored buttons on SFC are iconic and that's undeniable. SFC/US SNES are both amazing.

I firmly believe that the Genesis would still have went head to head with SNES in the US even if Kucklinske wasn't there.
