Windows 98 desktop (an hp with pent 3) is where I started, then xp nebook (acer from 2009 and don't recall specs), then older xp laptop (dell from like 2006ish with 1.8 ghz and etc), then android tablet, then android phones, then windows 7 netbook from probably 2010ish(1.6 ghz and 2 gigs ram).

I use both the android phone that has 1.8 ghz and the win7 laptop with 1.6 ghz. Which is better is a back and forth sort of thing, but generally this android I found on the ground that costs 150+ while no longer in production is good for it. It's even okay with some vr, or was before the free shit self destructed from jewgle play. Speaking of jewgle play, I have to disconnect from wifi to play games. Sim would probably need that removed too, but I don't actually zoom.exe so I've never had a smart phone sim even though I use smart phones for reading and emulation and such. 1.4 ghz and half a gig of ram is good for lots of things when I started years ago with some 7'' tablet with 4.4 android on it. Since then 5 version had better features, but after that it's a downgrade as usual. Even android went to shit. Speaking of shits I'm going to go take one, or I'd try to remember the specs more. Point is win9x I miss, but win7 and modern droids are okay.

I can't do emulation anymore.

Real hardware with flash carts or disc drive replacements has been achievable for most systems for a while now, and clone consoles are getting more and more accurate as well. Running some software emulator always results in input lag, various visual glitches, and the absence of many effects present on original hardware.

I like my old 3DS for GBA games, it runs them alright and usually gets the job done. Same with DS games. I have a vita but I prefer the clamshell design, and I bought a nice bag to go with my 3DS. Just wish there was one that did SNES emulation justice.

Bringing it with me to work is kind of a pain, but I don't mind.

My job gives me a shitload of free time. Are any of those modified phones / Chinese handhelds actually good for emulation? I'd love to buy one, but I've chosen against it until I gathered the proper research.

I want one for SNES emulation but n64 would be nice, too.

I use a PSP Go because of the form factor and excellent d-pad. The Vita is a tantalising prospect in the future if the homebrew scene matures but right now my PSP is smaller and has better battery life.

PSP is obviously really old hardware and you'd assume that these newer machines would be better as a result, but they're just bad. Main issue for me is none of them have build quality on the same level as a DS/PSP. The d-pads are bad, the buttons mushy, the plastic cheap. I get that's it's really tough to put in the R&D to make something as robust and premium feeling as a PSP but even so, you'd think someone would do it. I'd pay a lot of money for a modern machine with a 5x integer scale for 240p and good inputs, but that does not exist.

PSP 3k or Go are both good options that have different niches. I like my Go for the better screen and d-pad but the 3k definitely has some advantages of its own.

Despite owning many handelds, the PSP Go is still my go-to handeld for me.
The fact that it can emulate two of the consoles i care the most about perfectly (PS1 and Genesis / Megadrive) alongside having some solid native ports on it makes it really attractive for me, not to mention the small size of it being perfect for putting it in your pocket or bag without taking much space.
I'm still looking forward into getting a Gameboy Micro, as well as waiting for third party offerings like the Retroid Pocket and RG351P to improve hardware and software wise (since from my own research they don't seem to be perfectly capable of emulating 5th gen well, which is what i'm mainly looking after); As i'm a sucker for small handelds.

I like having a pi. I upgraded to a 4 the the 4gb(or whatever the highest one was at the start of the year) of ram. I have three 128gb, one for retro that has Atari to gba, one for just Playstation games, and when I upgraded I bought one for dreamcast and psp, but I found out DS runs pretty smooth.
I also have a Gpi case that I use for just handheld games. But I'm not a big fan because the unit gets hot real quick and causes slow down.

Depends on what Switch you have. Early revisions have a gaping hardware vulnerability that makes the thing really easy to hack in such a way that Ninty can't patch it out (beware of updating though, since they can still break CFW through updates, but never the exploit itself). If you picked up the switch within the first year or so, you should have one that can do it. There's a way of determining if you can do it by checking the serial number on the back. Just go to /hbg/ on /vg/ and there's a guide in the first post.

If it's not hackable this way, you can still get a modchip, though I'm not sure how easy they are to acquire with how hard Ninty are attacking the creators.

Bricking is difficult to do (though beware of downloading random games online, since they can technically do it). However, Ninty can ban your console from ever going online if you're not careful, so keep that in mind.

However, I've never used the online once, so don't care. Very good emulation machine.

Hello everyone, I recently got interested by emulation after hearing about Shadow Hearts, and a bit after that I've heard about Koudelka, playing it right now. I was also considering a Retroid Pocket 2, but I'm getting mixed reviews, some people say it's a great handheld device, powerful and well-made, other says it's bad, unfinished and I should wait more. What do you guys recommend?

Also related question, I have my PC and TV on opposite ends of the room, and I'd like to play on my TV, since I have a PS3 controller, but emulating from my PC. What should I do? you're so retarded you don't realize your argument also fits the RP2/RG351. but let's compare them anyway:
>RP2/RG351: struggles with PSP but can run several titles at playable framerates, same with N64, DC and DS, everything else runs flawlessly
>vita: struggles with SNES but can run several titles at playable framerates, can't emulate N64, DC or DS at all, has native PSP support
it's also important to note that there's no shame in not being able to run systems like the N64, DC, DS or PSP at full speed, even phones struggle with Chains of Olympus. it is however a joke that a device as able as the vita can't even do SNES properly.

regardless, this is all moot. your original post was:
>vita can do more than those chink shit tho
it literally can't. even if you ignore the PSP, can it emulate N64, DS or DC? no? then 3 > 0
>and it's cheaper
I can only find them for around 150. you said you can grab an used one for 80, which is what a RP2 costs. so at the very least no, it's not cheaper. best case scenario they're the same price.
