Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah yes, the Complete Super Mario Bros. 4-in-1 Game Pak. Now that the dust has settled, I think we can all agree that it was the, dare I say it, quintessential scotforming experience on the Nintendo Super System.

Actually, the patch is an overfix. It makes the bricks behave like in FDS Lost Levels removing some quirks that were present in the original FDS/NES Super Mario Bros.

So since you're not getting a truly authentic experience either way (and the "bug" is hardly game-breaking to begin with), you might as well just play the official release .

Not sure about Lost Levels but in All Stars when you hit a block in LL SMB1 you jump through it. In OG SMB1 you don't

>> No.7092954

>>7092850

In SMB1 and Japanese SMB2, when you are Big or Fire Mario and you hit a brick block, you break it and bounce downwards (the game "physics" reverse your vertical speed). In the All-Stars versions, an calculation oversight omits this reversal so you just keep moving upwards normally through the space the brick occupied; this often causes you to get between two blocks and get a little of your forward momentum dampened.

It's not a big deal, but it's funny how Nintendo never fixed it in any of the re-releases of the game.

No, that's actually one of the WORST uses for a filter like this. You literally create the LOOKIN' GOOD meme with something like eagle/2xsai used on digitized/prerendered 3D graphics. You'll want to use a good CRT filter like Royale with as much resolution as possible for those kinds of graphics.

How about just playing the original if you want to see green fireball that bad, and play All Stars if you want to see the more detailed toad house background? It's a win-win. The remake doesn't need to be 1:1 to the original just with more colors, it's fun that it has its differences. You can't accept them because, deeply, you don't like either game really, and you just want to cause an imaginary war between NES and SNES Mario games, lmao. Never gonna work sorry.

>> No.7099895

Doing internet archive searches doesn't bring it up, though.
On earlier threads me and some other anon/anons were trying to find evidence of people noticing the block change back in the day, there's nobody who comments on it on 90s usenet posts that we could find.
Here's another interesting fact: There's a romhack that "fixes" the block thing, made in 2006. It didn't got any reaction on the website it's hosted in until 2012, 6 years later... and that was only 1 reaction, the next ones happened all between 2017 and 2020.
There's definitely a connection between the ROMhack community and the speedrun community and the awareness of the block thing.
Sure, there may have been some isolated cases of kids noticing it back in the day, it's not on records though, and everything points out that people became more aware of it thanks to speedrun community, and was likely first discovered/discussed about in ROMhack circles.

It's more-so they should be darkened considering the back of the stage is complete darkness. They didn't need to make it pitch black like the original but a good detail of having it be wood to show it's a prop or at the very least pretend the hill is from behind so you don't see eyes and it's darkened due to it being dark behind stage would show it gets the original idea better in some way.
