Which is preferable for playing PS1 games on, the PS2 or PS3?

For some reason an actual PS1 is way more expensive to buy in my city than either PS2 or PS3.

PSX Beetle HW, on your home theatre PC.

That's a baby screen.

PS2 is fine, but even the Slim at 45 Watts uses 4.5 times the power and to play copied games you still have to either chip it or modify your console for disc swapping.

PS3 uses an emulator, won't do 240p and is a Jet Engine.

I've never owned a PS3, are the slim and super slim versions noisy too?

Can you use a PS2 memory card for saving PS1 games?

I don't know to be honest, I have three fats. One of them has a lot of PS1 ISO's on it and I never use it. I use a PS1 or emulate.

PS2. Just make sure you pick the right model, there is one particular model, which I can't remember, that won't run PS1 games

>> No.7080838

I prefer PS3 because it works over HDMI and you don't need a shit ton of memory cards.

I've never noticed my slim making any noise other than the disc spinning up.

No. You can use it to store backups of PS1 saves, but not use a PS2 MC on the games themselves.

>> No.7080843

>>7080798
No. The PS3 has a solution in the form of a "virtual memory card", which is a file that has a whole memory card saved inside. The PS2 needs the original PS1 MC.

Why are PS1s so expensive in your area OP? I just got one earlier this year with CIB copies of Symphony of the Night, and Chrono Cross alongside an original game boy for like $27. Local thrift shops should be sticking that stuff for retardedly cheap prices. According to Pricecharting a loose PS1 goes for $28 on average across eBay, GameStop, Pricecharting's own marketplace, and Amazon. I just spotted a slim PS1 with cords and 2 controllers at $18 and some change with only 1 bidder. $11 shipping stings but ~$30 isn't so bad for a lot like that.

i meant to say local thrift shops should be stocking that stuff for super cheap, but you know what I mean.

Ps1s are usually hilariously cheap, I'd keep an eye out for one. Also odds are it's already modded.

I have no idea, there just aren't many around it seems. They aren't expensive, it's more that PS2s are so cheap now that I can get one for around 20€, rather than 30-40€ that PS1s seem to go for in the second hand places. Maybe it's nostalgia driving up PS1 prices?

>>7080843
This might sway me to getting a PS3, one less thing to buy.

>to play copied games you still have to either chip it or modify your console for disc swapping
FMCB and FHDB exist.
>PS3 uses an emulator
Which just works for 95% of the games. 100% if you convert to classics.
>is a Jet Engine
My phat is pretty quiet. Try dusting your place.
>>7080757
Use a PS3, OP. It works flawlessly. I gave up on using a PS2 after 2 died on me. Get a Phat PS3, swap the HDD if you want, install Rebug, connect to PC using FTP and shove all the PSX and PS2 games in their folders. That's how mine is set up, and it's connected with HDMI to an LCD for PS3 games and a CRT for the rest. I can also watch series and movies on it.

I don't know about PS2, but PS3 has emulation issues sometimes. Mostly just Alien Resurrection has the door glitch that can't be bypassed, so that game can only be played on original hardware.

Couldn't you get the save from the console, do that part on an emulator, save, and put it back on the console? That's what people do with some games.

>> No.7081137

>>7080757
the only acceptable answer is a PSX with a serial port and a PSIO addon. Modding with discs is okay too. but anyone saying PS2 is a complete retard. Both the controller of the PS2 and the console suck ass.

>> No.7081165

>>7081137
PSIO is pretty out of date these days and has a very spotty track record. You can't exactly get a used one and cybdyn sucks with having things in stock between when they are doxing their customers and breaking compatibility. I'd recommend just throwing in burned discs or if you want an ODE xstation is the best solution.

I used to play PS1 games on both my PS2 and PS3 and the PS3 always had really weird glitches on PS1 games, which I assume is an emulation thing. Soul Blade in particular used to fuck up a lot for me on PS3, but worked perfectly fine on my PS2 slim. So I'm going with PS2.

Maybe that was a common problem, but not any more. There's a compatibility list online, and you can always convert to Classics.
