7076453 No.7076453 [Reply] [Original]

Why are zoomers so obsessed with modding Gameboys and adding backlit screens? Part of the appeal of these bricks is their battery life, adding in a backlight defeats the whole purpose of a Gameboy

>> No.7076461

I'm in the camp of leaving regular gameboys alone unless you want that classic experience.
Otherwise, get an SP or mod an OG GBA.

I don't see the appeal in playing a gameboy now, it was so common I'd rather emulate. I could however see the appeal in having one of these physically. Basically your own little handheld gaming experience in your pocket.

Backlights barely affect battery life, which has been proven time and time again.
Backlights and biverts are THE way to go with DMGs. They become so much more comfy. Just keep to an olive screen light if you want to retain the original look or go neutral white and get to see what the pixels actually look like. No meme colours and shit.

But you're probably just jealous because you're either too retarded to do this very simple mod or too poor to buy one.

I'm with you, I love my GB as well. There's something about it's aesthrtics that appeal to the senses. The wide availability of parts and games that give it such variety in style make it an absolute joy to play. It's not something you binge like a hardcore rpg or competative fps. It's resembles casual gameplay, yet the titles available offer a depth of challenge that any experienced user could appreciate. Try the shmups of the system for instance. Better yet, it's easy to play these same games on the tv with a GBA player, which can be activated using Swiss. Why mod games at all? Why not play your games in more comfort and pleasure, secure in the symbolic representation that it's yours? Your own "custom" system. And theyre quiet cheap to customize and fix up with only an online tutorial, compared to 'gamer machines' like a pc, or even a console. I don't own a ps4, and I'm not getting a ps5.

It's mostly why I hacked my 3DS.
I remember in highschool I carried around a GB pocket even when the DS was the thing because I still had shitloads of gameboy games. I picked up the pocket at a thrift store for like $5 and I wouldn't have been more upset that someone had stolen than because I lost the money.

Nowadays I'm more careful with my stuff so I can take my 3DS places. I emulate the old stuff because it's easier than carrying it around (admittedly I could get a flashcart) I get the form factor argument but that's why I'm using a 3DSXL
