try a lower stage turbo. don't just go by what gives you the most HP, highest stage turbo is only good for tracks with long straights. you're fucked on tracks with lots of tight turns. gear ratio adjustment will not make the high RPM turbo kick in at low RPM.

Rn I’m really into GT4 for the PS2. I play it both on a flatscreen and a crt, just depends on the day. I’ve recently gotten all the special black race cars from the used dealerships (pic related). The game has a surprisingly robust photo mode for a PS2 game, which my photo shows well. You can adjust many settings, including depth of field, shutter speed, focal length, etc. Then just take the photo and load it onto a usb drive and you’re ready to do whatever you want with it. Truly a revolutionary game.

current autistic GT4 challenge:
>beat as many races as possible using only Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions
>only upgrades allowed are:
>rigidity refresh (for used cars, gens I-VII)
>rigidity increase (after performing the refresh) >oil change (for a slight HP increase, for some reason even new cars come with used oil)
>tires, BUT:
>only sports/dirt/snow tires allowed for road cars
>race cars can use slicks
>use the lowest gen Evo possible to beat the race (start with Evo I, if unbeatable, go up to Evo II and try, then III, IV, etc.)
>only use the IV, VI, and VIII race Evos if road Evos I-VIII don't cut it

it's pretty fun, beaten the Easy rallies so far using nothing higher than IV. I might have to go up to V, VI, VII, or VIII to beat the Japanese Championship and the Normal rallies though.

I used to think the rally stages were boring as a kid, I would just power through them with the highest HP car I could get or upgrade that could accept dirt/snow tires, wallriding all the way, ramming the other car out of the way, etc.. but now I'm trying to beat the stages properly without hitting the wall or hitting the other car. getting a lot more A-Spec points too.

by the way, what are some good /vroom/ dedicated rally games if I like the rallying in GT2/3/4?

GT blogposting autist here.
so now I'm up to Evo VI, testing the GSR models vs the RS models. (in GT4, Evo I-V are only available in GSR, though RS was available for those gens IRL, and I think GT1 or 2 might have had a IV or V RS model)
spamming Capri Rally Easy to test the cars, and also to sell the Toyota RSC Rally Raid car for a ton of credits to fund my car collection habit (after I'm done with Evos, I'm gonna collect all the NSX's)
difference between GSR and RS is, RS is lighter, and has a limited slip differential, but GSR has the Automatic Yaw Control instead of the LSD (from IV-onwards)

any thoughts on the AYC? or tips on tuning it? is it better on dirt/snow than tarmac? I think the LanEvos are the only cars in GT1-4 that have AYC. the AYC controller upgrade only allows you to adjust it, the AYC is on the GSR cars stock.
blah blah blah

the thing I've found playing GT is, unless you dial in the tuning just right, the stock car almost always has the most balanced setup. throwing upgrades on without tuning the settings, especially a big turbo, just destroys that balance. if you don't want to spend the time to tune the upgrades, its best just to get a faster car.

>> No.7071659

correct me if I'm wrong, /vroom/, but I think GT1 allows you to adjust the boost pressure of the turbo, but on subsequent GT's, that tuning setting was taken away. (I might be wrong, if nobody replies in the next day or so, I'll fire up GT1 and GT2 and check myself)
but either way, lowering the boost pressure really just gimps the turbo kit you spent thousands of credits on, and you might as well buy a lower stage kit more suited to the RPM range you need, and have it on full boost.

depends on which game.
unlike GT4, GT2 has many races with power limits. so don't upgrade past the horsepower limit if you want to do that race. some upgrades are irreversible, like port polish/engine balancing/increase displacement. others can be bought, but taken off the car, such as NA or turbo stages, or exhaust upgrades.
and you have to beat all the easy races to progress in GT2. (and some have lower power limits than the stock horsepower on the RX-7 Infini III, if I remember right)

GT4 has limits on races too, but instead of horsepower, it's usually limited to things like >only sports tires allowed (no racing slicks)
>must be a FF/FR/MR/AWD car
>must be a car under 4000mm length (compact)
>must be a car under 3400 mm (kei car shitboxes like in OP pic)
>must be a truck
>must be a convertible
>must be a Japanese/American/German/British car
>must be a production car (no race cars, tuner cars, or concept cars)
>must have a boxer engine (mostly Subaru Imprezas and RUF Porsches)
etc.

>international A license bronze gives you the NISMO 270R, 270 horsepower, thus it's name. (NEVER SELL IT because License test prize cars cannot be won ever again)
>do 1st rally in Special Conditions, Umbria tarmac rally (Easy)
>you just won a Cadillac Cien with 800 HP
>can't sell it for money, since concept cars are worth nothing, but it's really fast

>> No.7072125

>>7072029
I think GT1 allows to adjust the boost pressure of the turbo, and I don't think you can in GT2, definitely can't in GT3 or 4.
other than that, it's mostly the same
but I think the localization teams changed metric to imperial without actually changing how it affects the tuning. the real car power is in PS, not HP. you can see this in GT4 where if you have the measurements set to HP, it will be off sometimes, but if you have it set to PS, it will always be correct. I think they probably did the same with metric measurements to imperial measurements for things like the suspension settings, ride height, downforce

Biker Mice from Mars was my favourite isometric top down view racer. All the characters felt different and had their own unique attacks. The Mice were all easy to use, especially Vinnie and Modo. Apart from making sure the game doesnt become too easy (Racing fully tuned GTRs against shitbox-civics/etc), it's a way to force players to explore different types of cars.

GT has always been a simcade, so they want players to learn how FR/FF/MR/RR behave, and how different tuning options/setups work. I just kinda wish GT4 also had horsepower or tuning limits, because by the mid-game you can usually win everything by maxing out whatever car happens to meet the entry requirements.

CTR has both that and tricks that make it so you can have constant "reserves" of it by using mini-turbos after driving over a turbo pad (here's a video with a tl;dr on most of the mechanics if you're interested: https://youtu.be/6C9dA3hcL70).).
Even without using any of the above-mentioned concepts, the game doesn't feel as slow.

This is one of the things I hated most about FH4 (not retro I know). You'd get absolute mongoloids swapping insane engines into SUVs and just ramming everyone off the track in online races.

Engine swapping is a cool tuning idea, but it would only be good if the devs paid a lot of attention to what is possible/reasonable IRL.Otherwise, you get absolutely retarded combos that completely break the game.

You're right in that almost everything is technically possible IRL, but most ridiculous shit would handle so poorly, or ruin the rest of the drivetrain so quickly that it'd be insanely impractical.

I agree, it could be really cool if they balanced it correctly, or made your car an undriveable wreck if you did something really dumb. In it's current iteration it feels way too silly imo.

I think GT just realized it was too much work to make it believable. I'd love to see a game that does it well tho, it'd add a whole new dimension to the tuning meta in these kinds of games

While you are right, you're ignoring that US public transport is awful. In Japan and EU you can live your entire life without getting in a car. I feel weird getting in cars because I can just walk everywhere.
I'm yuropoor and my grandparents always tell a funny story about holidaying in NA and how their hosts would freak out if they ever wanted to go a walk, saying shit like 'no we will just drive you' etc etc. On one of these recreational walks through a vast endless parking lot they bumped into another couple doing the same thing who turned out to be from the same town in Scotland as them kek.

It's mostly tight bowsers castle style maps yeah, there's arrows on uphill sections but I can imagine on a small screen it's hard to see. I played a chunk of the story mode on PSP and didn't find it too bad but I play wipeout where you have to memorize track layouts or you can't race.
SRB2K is hands down the best kart game. The only downsides are the furry weebs who run the servers have tendency to bloat them with mods. The skill ceiling is also high so it's possible you can end up a backrunner at peak times. The items only really shift race positions around 1/2 places rather than modern MK where it feels like mario party some times.

I still feel I'm p. good at arcade-type racers where real physics go out the window, but I've been struggling to git gud at all the more involved ones where you can't just drive like an alcoholic and have to properly handle turns.

need help, got a problem in NFS4:HP
I finished several races in the game, got money to buy another car to participate in the "you win - you get the opponent's car" (the last stage in the high stakes tournament) mode but I can't buy a car, nor can I sell mine

what do I do wrong?

GT3/4 have the Formula for cheesing, GT2 has (for unlimited races) the Escudo and GT1 has the ridiculous LM versions (FTO or del Sol, mmm) for cheesing.

yeah but in GT4 to get the F1 car you have to do the Nurburgring 24 Hour race which takes minimum 9 hours on BSpec autopilot.
at that point I'd say you earned the cheese.

>> No.7089447

>>7089427
also the race series for the F1 car is all super long races, and the car itself isn't very fun to drive, just too much horsepower, its hard enough to keep the thing on the track

>Is a NeGcon worth it?
if you plan on becoming good at the games that use it ie wipeout, ridge racer/rage racer etc then its absolutely ESSENTIAL, every world record is done with one as achieving that level of perfection in lines, execution and multitasking brake managements etc is impossible with anything else, take wipeout for example you can control the nose with the D whilst you left and right with the twist, this offers a massive advantage in execution of the best lines when you get to grips with it and you can hold lines to instead of tapping.

No customization in Side by Side games unfortunately. Tokyo Highway Battle and Shutokou Battle R (same series; THB is the first localized game in the series) has customization, but only mechanical.

I got my G29 back, it sent it for repair under warranty a while back and it finally came back. For the last few weeks I've been playing GT4 since it's controller friendly, but I'm wondering if it may be worth it to play it with the wheel. I know that it's possible, and I know for sure that it supports some mid-2000 wheel (Logitech Force GT or something like that). I don't know if there's any kind of FFB and, if there is, how good it is. I think something like Grid Arcade would be enough.

/vr/ wise they could've been out for two decades already, are you saying vids or whatever sort of info online created since then can't help you? they could have localized games related to it or whatever, another source of info
