Been playing Earthbound after maybe 20 years since I've last played it. Quirky and fun dialog but maybe it's me but it feels like a game where the team played a lot of Dragon Quest and love Dragon Quest but never really understood Dragon Quest. Since it has a lot of tiny things that makes it annoying to play. Like it's cool having a massive town to explore but they are kind of too big to walk around and unless you have the map on you at all times you will spend so fucking long just wondering around finding the hotel or other places.

Still not as painful as trying to get the Gutsy Bat. Only four chances to get that from Krakens, I think, and with the usual 1/128 odds.

You do know that the Bionic Krakens found in The Cave of the Past drop the Gutsy Bat, right? The English strategy guide saying that the regular Krakens drop it is an infamous mistake in the strategy guide.

Still, getting it is still a major pain in the ass. All enemies in The Cave of the Past use the same exact overworld sprite, the diamond, so you can never tell when one is actually on screen. Even worse is that they almost never spawn and are rare as fuck and that they only spawn in the final section of The Cave of the Past, meaning you need to backtrack to the very beginning if you need to save and heal.

None of the 1/128 drops are worth grinding them out. They're extras meant to drop every now and then as a treat, and are in no way necessary to beat the game. Earthbound is easy. Not finishing the game until you find them is a bit goofy.

Once you go to the Cave, you're stuck there, so farming it there is pretty pointless. The three Bionic Krakens in Magicant are your only chance to get one before the point of no return if you want to have some actual use for it.

I would always try for the Sword of Kings, at least. The Starman Supers are easy to insta-kill on ambush by tagging them as they're in mid-teleport.

There's no Bionic Krakens in Magicant, all three are regular Krackens. You literally can only get it the final room of the final dungeon.
