I always have been a huge fan of DQ/DW but unfortunately whenever people talk about JRPGs, many overlook this wonderful and frankly the grandfather of all JRPGs.

I'm pretty sure a lot of us like Dragon Quest here in /vr/.

>> No.705175

I love Dragon Quest. Currently playing through a translated ROM of DQ3 on the SNES. I think the reason most people overlook DQ is because back before the Square Enix merger, Enix tried so hard to make DQ relevant in the west but failed, and after the merger with Square, it got put on the backburner hard.

>> No.705186

I've been interested in the series recently. Completed DQ1 on SNES and now playing 3 on NES, want to experience that pure 8-bit feel. Group combat does a lot to make it more fun, but damn resurrecting costs a ton.

I've been playing the series in succession after seeing how much /vr/ loves them (currently on V).

Loved DQI & II's simplicity, III's system, IV's characters, and now V's story...it's amazing how each of them had something that did hook me. I hope later games manage to do the same.

I push occasional updates on my blind play of DQVII on here. Never played a DQ/W game before Sometimes I get replies other times I don't. I am always curious how I'm doing time-wise since everyone always blew it up to be some huge time-sink epic.

I always make it a general thread so DQ fans can chat. Thanks for reminding me that I should put a few more hours in today.

For those that may have missed, Just got to the town of Hamelia after the other town becoming deserted and everyone in the port town talking about this traveling bard. 35h 17m

Well, someone mentioned something about a church stairs and getting a character early, but since I'm playing blind I couldn't figure out their secret hints. I sunk a lot of time in the poison plot because I didn't know how to trigger it Ended up visiting Pepe and that whole area in his new town then coming back and seeing the poison plot not moving. Goofing around that town until FINALLY that poison powder was dropped.

But yeah, like the other anon said, go with SNES, it looks great. Here are the differences between NES and SNES, if you're interested.

>Items hidden in pots, dressers, etc. are added in the remix.
>"Seeds" and "Acorns" have been added to this Remix. These are like the items in Dragon Quest 4 and increase your stats when used.
>More rare items like the Mysterious Hat and Wizard's Ring will be found in chests.
>The Flame Sword, from Dragon Quest I, can now be used as an item in battle.
>Some monsters (Golem, the Green Dragon guarding Laura, Mad Clown of Roretsua) have had their HP significantly increased, you get a big boost in experience as a bonus for beating them.
>In DQ2 if you have one of your characters to attack a monster, and someone else kills it first (or it runs away), your character will attack another monster :) instead of missing completely. (This applies to spells also)
>Visible effects occur on screen when you cast spells like stopspell and surround on enemies. If you don't see the effect (ring of stars for stopspell, clouds for surround, rings for Defense) then the spell has had no effect and you'd better cast it again.
>The status box with your HP and MP during battle will contain pinkish colored notation near your name if you are affected by a status condition.
