I found soul collecting boring and grindy and I think I never bothered to finish it but was pretty burnt out on the formula by then. Sweet Clock tower music in that one though, I do remember that.

Meh i don't agree ; you don't even need to grind , the souls is something you get while playing randomly and you get souls randomly not you something you grind for .

It's pretty damn good, yeah Easily the best Castlevania game

The drop rate on certain souls has to be absolutely STUPIDLY low even with certain buffs that it definitely could be grindy

Started replaying it last night for some low-impact action. Very fun. I've got it on an emulator hooked up to my TV, and it scales surprisingly well. A lot of GBA games feel kind of constricted on a big screen, too much scrolling.
It's way too easy, since it's from the 2002-2013 easy era of game design. But honestly that kind of adds to the charm, because it makes it very smooth compared to most games of similar antiquity. You're never caught at an "agh, really? THAT'S how it works?" moment.

Great game, not as good as SotN tho.

I agree, Aria is the most balanced GBAvania. Circle of Moon was pretty good too, but the card drop rate was ridiculously rare.Harmony of Dissonance had weird looking sprites and was too easy.

>> No.7048363

One of the only cases I can think of where tighter design doesn't amount to the better game. There's just so much detail and top notch presentation in SotN that it's hard to compete even when your actual game is better.

>Circle of Moon was pretty good too, but the card drop rate was ridiculously rare
There's lots of equipment that boosts your luck as well as a card combo that increases it by 25% which makes it pretty trivial to get drops.

The only problem with it is how easy it is to grind for 20 mins and make the rest of a game a joke to beat.

Chlaim Solis is too easy to acquire. I wasn't even trying on my first run and it made the game way too easy. It's also too short.

>Acquire Soul Ring and the rest of the game is trivial

>> No.7048518

Yeah i found it very easy most of the time , but the unique thing about it is using souls to finsh and end squences faster than taking it as normal castlevania ; the atmohsphere was the greatest point of the game , this game have alot of unique places and envoirment you won't find in any other boring metroidvania

Yeah the Chlaim Solas is a major issue. Once you know about it, pretty much every other weapon you can get is inferior.

And when you do know about it you can get it fairly early.

Because you're playing it wrong. Most souls are not any better than others. You're supposed to just roll with whatever souls the game gives you leading to each playthrough being a little different.

Yeah I probably should have played it more like that but it just didn't hold my attention. OoE was the same way though that was more with the level design. In the end I think I just played too many of them. The formula is good but I don't like it quite that much.

This isn't something that would matter if I had played it on GBA, but Harmony's saturation on emulators made it unplayable for years for me.
I started to appreciate it after I used a proper GBA color shader.

Nah, it's a "pokemon" angle they added to the game to add playability. They expect you to collect them, especially being that there are small parts that are gated by souls you find in the wild, like the waterfall, and enemies that exist only for you to get a soul from, like the tsuchinoko and that streak of light monster in the frozen caves that requires the chronomage soul.

>> No.7051683

Out of all Castlevania games, it's the one Ive played through the most. I just did a hard playthrough last week and was surprised to find that there were hardmode only items.
>>7049112
This anon is right. I don't mind a bit of grind so I like to pick from a pool of my favorite souls and try for them, but mostly just I roll with what I pick up. Hell I did the first two bosses on hardmode with skeleton because of mana economy vs needing to dodge during fights.
