When I was younger I used to play SoM, unfortunately I could only play by myself as I had no one to play with. Recently two friends and I, almost by chance picked it up. We loved it, played it for 8 hours straight before calling it quits. We're not done yet, but I thought I'd ask /vr/ it's opinion on SoM. Favorite Weapon? Best Magic? Preferred Character?

How long does it take to unlock co-op? I have a buddy that would probably be interested provided it doesn't take more than ten minutes to get to that part. Its a japanese rpg though...so..

Not long, within an hour you can find your second character and soon after that you get the third and final. If you're playing on an SNES you'd need a multitap to play 3 player

While I remember the game having a lot of wonkyness and bugs, I played though it two player with my brother back in the day and very much enjoyed it. I haven't played Seiken Densetsu III yet, other that little bits at the beginning, and I'm trying to get some of my D&D guys to play it with me on an actual Super Famicom with an SD2SNES with the 3 player hack.

SNES9XGX on SoftModded Wii with some Classic [or Gamecube if you have to] Controllers is the best way to play this game.

Have some eyecandy, OP.

My dad got this game for his fathers' day. I remember watching him play, I didn't really understand much of it (couldn't read English yet), but a few years later I got to play it myself, and I really enjoyed it.
Gave it another try a few weeks ago, and found out an ex-best friend, who turned out to be a gigantic faggot, erased my dads' save a few years ago. While there were 3 other saveslots with <15% progress.

Probably one of my favourite games for the SNES. My favourite sound track for any game too.

At first my favourite set up was, Girl, Whip, Ice Magic

But on my next playthrough I was all about Sprite, Spear, Wind

I'm doing another playthrough on my phone and decided to go out of my comfort zone so I'm having each character main 2 weapons that I rarely used on them before, so I play mainly as the boy and use Knuckles or Bow, Girl I use Javeline and Spear, Sprite I use Throwing Stars(boomerang?) and Bow.

Such a fun game. It's even more fun if you try to limit your magic use on bosses and play with 3 players. We only use support magic.

I used to rent Secret of Mana as a kid and my mom would play with me. She wasn't very good, but she liked it.

Felt great to buy it so many years later CiB for $8 because it's that childhood nostalgia game.

Not really. Seemed like compared to the other weapons, it always lagged behind in power level. It also had a nasty habit of missing half the time. But some of the javelins came with secondary effects like Balloon, which proves useful fighting mobs.

Of the ranged weapons (Bow, Whip, Boomerang and Javelin), Whip is the undisputed best with Bow following closely. However, you have to stand a certain distance away from the enemy to strike them with the whip, if they're right next to you the attack will just go through (and strike something else). The other ranged weapons don't have that problem.

Spear-user, all day every day. Always the first of the weapons to go up a level, and even when at the same level as the Sword it will always be a few points higher in ATK. Though Sword is a little quicker on the draw, so I tend to switch between them alot.

Yeah, I main Boy. No magic for me, thank God for all this delicious candy om nom nom.
