Arcade rom of Sexy Parodius.
Functional multi-player and none of that choppiness or censorship you had to deal with on home ports.

Try the arcade versions on mame, they can't be beat.

Best character is Mr. Parodius, the octopus, aka Tako (タコ?), he's the main character in the original Parodius and Parodius Da! His relatives, Takosuke and Takohiko, went on to star in the later games of the Parodius series.

coomerbait, don't fall for their wicked wicked ways

I usually go with Tako. Two-way missile with the ripple laser.

The ps1/saturn Sexy Parodius ports are not choppy or censored. Sexy Parodius is the one game in the series where you should play the home port because the arcade version emulated is missing background graphics such as:

Intro: Lack of blending in cloud.
Stage 1: Lack of snow in background.
Stage 2: Lack of stars in background.
Stage 3A: Lack of blue waves in background.
Stage 4A: Lack of stars in background.
Stage 5: Lack of blending in rainbow.
Stage 6 (1,2,3,4): Lack of castle in background. (5): Lack of blending in curtain.
Stage 3B: Lack of castle and rain in background.

Playing Vic Viper in Parodius is like playing Mario in Mario Kart.

Parodius Da is amusing, because most of the versions all have their own exclusive stages/intros, though the snes port is the overall best

Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius ~forever with me~ is pretty damn good. Also really like Gokujou Parodius.
Sexy Parodius is also great, though I really don't like it's objective style gameplay. Parodius Da! is fine and the original MSX game is also pretty much just fine.

I wish the SNES version had an english translation. The emulators for SNES are just so less bloated than emulators for later systems.

I played the PS1 Parodius releases just fine with Mednafen.
There's also that PSP Parodius collection which also includes Parodius MSX.
