how do you think Sonic Adventure 1 would be like on the Sega Saturn?

>> No.7029740

Something similar to Sonic World in Sonic Jam and the racing tracks from Sonic R:

People talk about how Sonic Jam is proof that his classic design wouldn't work in 3D but I always like it and thought it was cute

It's a cope people say to justify the SA redesign

Never heard this opinion before. In my experience, most people that aren't Sega or Sonic fans don't even know what Sonic Jam is.

There, I have saved Sega.

Could Sonic Team even develop a Sonic Adventure that could run acceptably on the Saturn within an acceptable amount of time?

>Watched the History of Sonic video in Mega Collection as a kid
>Shows Sonic Jam and makes it look like it's the whole thing
>Get interested in this 3D Sonic game I'd never heard of
I nearly bought a Saturn with Sonic Jam for like £90 in the late 2000s and boy I'm glad I didn't buy it as a kid. I got a Saturn a while back and played through Sonic World in like 30 mins. Very cool, but I would've felt ripped off as a kid because I expected an Adventure tier experience. I had R on Gems Collection and the MD version of 3D on Mega Collection so didn't care about those either. That Saturn would've been dead weight, fuck I never really saw any Saturn games for sale after that. Glad I waited and got a JP one.

That's retarded considering Sonic was always designed to work in 3D.
They even used models like pic related to help with specific animations.

Weird since his SA1 model is essentially the classic design just with longer spikes.

I like to think had they released a mainline Sonic game for the Saturn, it would pretty much look like Sonic Robo Blast 2. And maybe the series would have taken a different direction after that.

it would have required both sega and sonic team to not be incompetent

3d backgrounds with 2d sprites like your example would have been perfect considering the power of the consoles at the time. Doom SAT was obviously underwhelming, but a SlaveDriver engine build could possibly have done SRB2 justice if this hypothetical game was built in the same way. SRB2 translates to the 2d essence to 3d pretty well I think. And this is coming from a guy that enjoyed SA1.

Exactly. He's 3D in Sonic 2, CD and 3, too.

Saturn games had really shit draw distances. I don't think you could have something like Sonic Adventure on the Saturn because you'd barely be able to see 50 feet ahead.

>> No.7032678

>>7032629
Check out something like High Velocity; the system WAS capable of decent draw distance, but barely any games show that off.

That being said, Sonic Team would have certainly bungled it, and a good draw distance at launch is probably outside the realm of possibility.
