Ah, the sweet, sweet sound of every single memecast on Earth becoming obsolete at once and the distorted, tortured screams of Isao Okawa from hell. A fitting startup noise for the greatest console of all time.

Take a PC and just put it into an oversized case - done.

It's not the first time this was done (i.e. Amiga 1200 > Amiga CD32 (or earlier Amiga 500 + CD > Amiga CDTV) or Apple Macintosh > Bandai Pippin), but maybe the most lazy attempt.

I still got my blue box and the two games I bought for it before quitting video games for a decade. Tony Hawk 4 and Virtua Fighter 4. Actually, no, I did buy one other game. Way of the Samurai and my faggot friend traded it into Funcoland when I let him borrow it. And it had my memory card in the case.

I wish I had a functional DS2. I still got my PS1 controller that I used to play VF4 (too many years of tekken with that controller. it was broken in just right) but the DS2 committed suicide from being stored in a closet for 20 years. I read online that the pcb traces oxidize if it isn't used for an extended period. >Wild Wild Racing
Underrated if I'm being honest.
>Unreal Tournament
Fun, but inferior to both the PC version and the Dreamcast port.
>TimeSplitters
Good fun in multiplayer, though the single-player lacks content, just feels like an early prototype for TimeSplitters 2.
>Tekken Tag Tournament
Good fun if you're into Tekken.
>Swing Away Golf
Never played it.
>Summoner
Feels a bit bland and drab, visuals aren't impressive but the gameplay was neat for a console game at the time.
>Street Fighter EX3
It's okay I guess... really jealous that the Dreamcast had Street Fighter 3 instead though probably because of Sony's "muh 3D" stance at the time.
>Smuggler's Run
Has a bit of that janky launch game stink about it, but it was visually impressive and fun for a little bit at-least.
>Silent Scope
Good game but better on Dreamcast since they at-least attempted to emulate the light gun sniper rifle scope using the VMU.
>Ridge Racer V
Comfy, pretty, and fun.
>Ready 2 Rumble
Another interesting relic of 90's game design that was dying out by the time the PS2 came out.
>Q-Ball
Never played.

Cringe JRPG, you'd be better-off playing one of the many JRPG's still coming out on PS1 at the time (Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross, FFIX, etc.)

They have cool soulful shit like Pokemon cards and DVD's on the shelves that you don't find in game/electronic stores anymore, instead you see shitty Fuckopop figures and preorder brochures for soulless overhyped trash games.

It also represents a different culture I think, giving the sense that we still lived in a relatively-free society. The dude at the register looks like he's in a good mood and has the sense that he's got his whole life ahead of him, whereas a lot of people working retail now are snarky, effeminate, depressing, and dead inside because they know their future is fucked.

I didn't care much about the launch titles. But quite ironically I indeed bought two japanese PS2 launch titles very late and way after the PS2 era was over.

Btw. these titles were Dead of Alive 2 and the Squaresoft Wrestling game All Star Pro Wrestling, which wasn't that great of a game but got better with every sequel. To this date ASPW3 is by far the best looking PS2 wrestling title. But you can't say that about the first iteration of the game, which had a really bizarre controlling scheme (either ONLY via directional buttons or with the analog sticks but with some kind of gesture control with various circling motions - very weird indeed).

Just beat MGS 2 for the first time since 2002 last night. Some PS2 era nostalgia, but it holds up on its own, since I honestly haven't played it in so long that most of the second act is fresh. I'm reminded why I never replayed it though; it stops being much of a game after Shell 1.
Amazing how HUGE and mindblowing MGS2 was in terms of graphical advancement at the time, but I'm playing MGS5 in parallel with this and while it certainly looks nicer than 2, its hardly mindblowing anymore. That sort of wow factor no longer exists, and hasn't really since the 6th gen.

>On October 25, 2000, Tecmo released DOA2: Hardcore for the PlayStation 2 in America and Europe, which was based on the Japanese second update of Dead or Alive 2 for Dreamcast. This version was featuring new playable characters, new stages, extra costumes and introduced the "Gallery" option. The Hard*core release was finally the complete game Itagaki had envisioned at the time, featuring many changes compared to its predecessor: Characters, pictures and moves were altered to appear more realistic, lessening the anime-look. Some fighting animations were elaborated upon, while others were cut. New stages were added (8 more than the Dreamcast update). More character outfits were added. Survival Mode now only took place in the "Danger Zone" arena. Overall gameplay speed was increased, and the entire game (including cutscenes) now ran at a full 60 frames-per-second (in the Dreamcast version, the game ran at 60fps, while cutscenes ran at 30). A special "Items Collection" feature and menu section was added to appeal to video game collectors. New artworks were added, and a CG Gallery section featuring renders of the female characters was added. The player history files were enhanced, and now included statistics on how often the player used each character, and tag battle pairing. Several special moves were added, but left undocumented. English voiceovers were added in addition to the original Japanese voice overs. Kasumi can be unlocked as a trainable 'monster' in Monster Rancher 4 by going to the Shrine, and inserting the DOA2: Hardcore disk in the PS2.
You sure about that Bernie? I know you're retarded but Hardcore is the definitive non-Ultimate version of the game.

The first Timesplitters game is actually really fun and I like the mapmaker a bit more than the two sequels'. I also like the character designs and animations a little more and how unbalanced the weapons are. Definitely better than a lot of you say it is and I think it's worth playing. I will say that the story mode is a bit weak, but the game's optimized for multiplayer/arcade mode and it really shines there. Lots of great levels I've never seen before, too.

Usually the first titles are rather bland and unremarkable since the devs haven't got a hang on the system yet. Just look at the C64. The early games look absolutely ridiculous and partially are still even hideous underperforming (many were still programmed in BASIC), while (at least purely in terms of graphic fidelity) the late games were small marvels in what they managed to get out of the rater limited 8-bit hardware. You usually can't do that at launch time, since you don't know the quirks of the hardware yet.
