Just got to Summers, I've been trying to beat this for the first time in my life. Rented it when I was a kid and only ever made it to Twoson. Emulated it as a teen but dropped it after I got to the Desert. It feels stupid when you say you're a huge fan of something that you haven't even beat yourself. Also, did I miss a sound stone place in Twoson? I've got 3 parts of the song but it's skipped over the second.

Super underrated items. Slime generator works on pretty much everything, and the shield killer is clutch against auto-shielded enemies like Chomposaur and Diamond Dog.

Honestly, with Earthbound and other games like it, I find that most “grinding” can be achieved simply by traveling back somewhere earlier in the game and fighting along the way. The idea of just running back and forth for 30 minutes is so unnecessary. Just take a walk and see if anyone in Threed needs anything.

If you're talking about the melody, I went back and grabbed it. Pretty sure they wanted you to do that boss with just you and Paula, because it was ridiculously easy. I'm at Stonehenge's maze now. Got all the way to the fucking bottom, grabbed an exit mouse because I remember one of them saying "use me in the dark place," and retardedly used him once I got in the dark area. I thought they just followed your party and pointed at where you needed to go, not just teleport you the fuck out. HERE GO AGAIN, REV UP THOSE NEUTRALIZERS. >PK Shitstorm
Lmao
It's dropped by the Starman Super, ONLY.
The best place to grind it out is the labyrinth-like corridor before the final two rooms (The one with the people in tubes, and the room with the boss).
Killing the boss will end this section of the game, so do whatever you want.
Also, Poo is the only other party member that can Revive/Heal, so he's always useful.

>> No.7019584

Well, I think I'm about to be where the OP is. It says I can't come back, so I'm wondering if I'm at a decent place to go in. Ness is 78, Paula is 68, Jeff is 66, and Poo is 62. I was using the bat i got from the Kraken, but I finally figured out that's why Ness keeps fucking missing. Jeff has I think every possible broken device he can have. I just repaired the Defense Shower. I don't own any multi hit bottle rockets, but I also only really have space for 2 with all his stuff.

Kill me is an understatement. What a wonderful game with such a fucking BULLSHIT finish. If you get your shit stolen or use your heavy hitting items before you think it's a good run, the game basically locks you into "welp, hope you like grinding for a whole weekend or more. Good luck!"

whenever you're grinding for any of the rare drop items, yeah, you will absolutely break the level scaling in the game. And the thing with the SoK is that you can only get it once, when you beat Starman DX the chance is gone, so unless you luck out and get it without even trying, you will fuck you your level scaling for that one for sure yeah.
What I did was grind for all the 1/128 drops on my Mother 1+2 copy for GBA. I also got to like level 99 grinding for the SoK, then I started looking for everything else. Playing on the GB Micro made grinding more accessible, since I would play 10 or 15 minutes when going to take a dump, or before falling asleep on the bed, etc. As I said, the magic frypan and the gutsy bat are the ones that are the most pain to get because the enemies that drop it are rare/annoying to find/fight.
But I got them all finally, so I'm happy with my 100% file (at least of equipable items).
Funnily enough, the first time I played through Mother 2 on the Super Famicom, I got the SoK without even trying. Didn't get the other rare drops though, but I could potentially grind for them if I want.
