Could someone please explain to me why people hated this ad? I legitimately don't understand what's wrong with it.
It's just bog-standard edgy 90's shit about a game being hard

bitches in denial got mad at it

Because the game it was promoting was terrible. If Daikatana were actually good, people would look back on it fondly

>> No.7012749

Daikatana was overhyped for such a mediocre shooter when people's views of FPS games were quickly changing. Then the story of the game's development hell (which wasn't exactly a secret) was explained to everyone and it became public shame. Really bad development cycles and poor fan relations in such a public way was actually new, because of the internet. Before, when games like this would come out, there'd be no discussion about it except with your circle of friends and some letters you read in a magazine.

You know how horse armor in Oblivion is STILL remembered as especially offensive DLC even though it's actually pretty standard bullshit, rather than special bullshit? It's a lot of that effect going on.

Because it was trash when it came out. The outrage is a meme, it was more a poetic justice/point and laugh at Romero thing after the fact once the game was delayed over and over and then was crap.

Most people, unlike yourself cucklord, do not enjoy the idea of being bent over and raw dogged by John Remero over his overblown ego project.

No one hated it. Its hilarious in retrospect.

Same reason people laugh at this shit. Although the Daikatana ad campaign was particularly pathetic, because they were just covering for the fact they had so little that was fit to be shown off, and banking on the one thing they could which was John Romero's name.

>"First of all I would never call someone my bitch because that's gay!" -John Romero in interview about the ad, 2012
>asked other men "Who's your daddy!?"
What did Romero mean by this?

Nobody HATES it, it's just the perfect example of hubris and a deep fall. HAD the game been the video game second coming of Christ so that people want to kneel before Romero to suck his dick the ad would have been fine - but it wasn't, So the ad is now a symbol of ridicule.

Romero is woke now, so it's all okay.

>> No.7013848

I don't recall anyone hating it or being offended by it. It's just hilariously tone-deaf because of how overly confident it is despite the game itself being notoriously bad or painfully mediocre at best.

because daikatana is an awful game that somehow was good as an rpg on the gbc of all fucking things

>> No.7013929

I actually thought the ad was cool when I first saw it in a magazine (edgy 90s). The game was hyped to no end, but that ad wrote a check that John refused to cash.

>> No.7013942

>>7012712
Nothing was wrong with the ad other than its embarassing level of completely unwarranted Duke Nukem Forever style hubris - except this was over a decade before DNF would be released.

Everyone knew the game was going to suck, but here was this big claim from one of gaming's original "rock star" devs.

It was big laughs.

12 years later, some faggot journos saw an opportunity to write some revisionist history about it and pretend the gaming community sneered at it because it was rude/homophobic/sexist 'dudebro' trashtalk. This narrative is a complete and utter fabrication, created in service of leftist politics.

They didn't get mad until after the game actually came out, people saw what it was like, and it put a slightly different spin on this funny little marketing slogan.

>> No.7014160

>>7012712
I read from an interview years back with John Romero that apparently he had nothing to do with the ad, Ion Storm hired an ad agency and the first time John saw the ad was when it was already in print, and since he obviously knew how bad the development was going it was a moment of "Fuck me, I'm going to get made fun of endlessly because of this" and then exactly that happened. 20 years on and people still make fun of him for it.

>> No.7014442

>>7014330
I posted in wrong thread, but I suppose it fits here as well if you read "gay" as "random asian kung-fu shit" because everyone in the game has to keep repeating that the daikatana is indeed a mystical weapon.
