i was stuck and didn't finish it. you really had to listen to every dialogue and not forget where you're at. that's what i liked. i had to pay attention, in an open world game. meanwhile i can finish GTA V while skipping every cutscene and follow lines on a map

The game seems to be made by someone who was familiar with video games only in theory rather than in practice and felt that he was too smart to actually play them. Like he had seen someone play RE so he gave the game ridiculous tank controls, he had seen fighting games so he added button mashing fighting segments, and he had some vague familiarity with first-person shooters (but nothing beyond that since they gave him motion sickness) so added those segments whenever you need to use a gun. All of them play terribly.
With competent developers who didn't consider video games to be beneath them, it could be a hidden cyberpunk gem instead of a pretentious disaster.

all solid takes. omikron has bad combat and rather lame writing, but the setting is awesome and a joy to explore and solve puzzles in. despite the bad combat the adventure game stuff is really good thanks to QoL features like automatic note taking, a map you can pull up and fast travel. the puzzles dont start getting bad until after you plant bombs at Tetra Factory but even then you can just pull up a walkthrough or brute force things. i recommend it, but only the dreamcast version emulated as its more stable (no Tetra Factory bug) and lets you use save states to side-step the bad portions. that and the graphical downgrades works in the game's favor by adding more visual grit to the cyberpunk setting.
i also recommend reading the developer diary archived at http://omikrongame.blogspot.com/1999/12/omikron-nomad-soul_31.html because its good insight into how none other than david cage's hubris turned a promising game into something much less refined because of the terrible idea of mixing two different forms of combat, leading to less time for polish.

t. never played the game. the puzzle you just described makes perfect sense. when you get to the apartment you find a prescription for sleeping pills, you find out your boss likes coffee but she is also in the way of you finding evidence for your investigation. hmmmm, i wonder how i can get past her? why not mention the chest puzzle where it seems legitimately cryptic because the sequence the directions are supposed to be followed in is never explained? i suck at adventure games yet most of omikron's puzzles were easy.

Good atmosphere and ambition, but not actually that great of a game, as it's lacking both in gameplay and writing. Still like it quite a bit. Best game David Cage ever made.
Mentally I group it with Daggerfall and Bloodlines as flawed but fun experiences, although Omnikron doesn't reach the heights of those other two games.

Quantic Dream's first and best game. Pretty impressive in some ways, but too much of the gameplay is shoddily implemented by people who only seemed to have the barest understanding of what they were trying to emulate.

It's a shame the same design docs weren't handed to people who actually like to play videogames instead of the west's pretentious version of Kojima.
