I still have my Saturn from when I was a kid. Getting a Pseudo Saturn cart and eventually a MODE have made me enjoy it so much more. I've been playing Policenauts with the lightgun and I'm having a blast with it.

Amazing system if you appreciate 2D games (they were almost always better instead of edge cases with dump devs like Castlevania: SotN and DonPachi) and and aren't going to shit your pants when you realize a game wasn't released anywhere besides Japan, even though a lot of shit like fighting games and shooters end up half in English anyways. My Saturn folder is bigger than all my other systems right now besides the PS2. Also the best controller of all time for 2D games.

Yes, there is a couple cheap ODEs like the Fenrir but you need to have a model 1 Saturn, MODE for either but its $200 dollars, and the soon to be coming Satiator that was kind of a meme to wait for because it took so long. The plus of it is that it's the only one that will retain your laser, it's kind of like PSIO in that regard (but won't require soldering and hopefully doesn't have draconian attempts at DRM). Most people probably end up playing burnt CD-Rs with a Pseudo Saturn Kai flashed Action Replay cart.

I don't really get people that say this, the Saturn d-pad is an absolute beast at being able to comfortably put your entire thumb on it and abuse the hell out of tilting it. It's really in an entirely different lane. I even use it to this day when playing 2D stuff on PC and even Cave-shit PC ports and MAME or Fightcade. 6 buttons were the peak of button layout, the only thing I'd be interested in seeing is a Genesis/Saturn style controller with an emphasis on a diamond layout like the trend is now, and then 2 extra buttons on the side. Kind of like the duke controller for Xbox I guess.

PS2 is very good but only has like 150 or so good games. I'd say that's about on par with the SNES/SFC. PS1 has literally hundreds of good games, Saturn is at around 200 or so.

Its just people in Europe and North America had better options at the time. Plus all the conjecture, confusion and poor marketing between SoJ and SoA tore any successes away from the Console itself. It was also very difficult to develop games for. Luckily- some really good games did arrive (in Japan) but by then the plug had been pulled.

You can spend a hundred bucks on a Fenrir or two hundred bucks on a MODE and you'll have the ability to play literally every Saturn game released.

For the cost of 2-4 decent Saturn games you can play literally everything in the library. ODEs are the best option.

If you're a casual than spending $40 on a Pseudosaturn cart and $10 on a stack of CDRs is a good option as well.

It's never been easier to play Saturn games on actual hardware.
