Why are people going crazy over this subpar rpg? Seriously? The story is bland and cliche'd, the mechanics are only passing grade and the visuals are some of the worst on the PS

hard to say its cliche cuz all of the 'anti rpg' games came after this game, this was one of the first few to challenge it at all

mechanics aren't the most groundbreaking thing in the world, yeah, i get that. i think it plays fine though, the exploration is fun and the puzzles to get animal souls are good too.

i personally love the visuals, really cool renders and digitized artwork, and some mixed in claymation. i guess you could call it inconsistent but i like the feel it goes for, and i think it has a really good sense of tone

if its not your jam then its fine, but i wouldnt call it sub par

Beat it a couple of weeks ago. A dangerous amount of soul, charm and love in this game. Really enjoyed the first five or so hours, but like all adventure games, things just grind to a fucking halt once the puzzles and their solutions become increasingly nonsensical. It's from a particularly unforgiving era of japanese game design where you aren't supposed to find everything on your first run, but even the main story requires a tedious amount of waiting around and nonsensical experimentation to progress. My advice is to play the first few hours on your own, but to not feel bad if you really get stuck and need to use a guide.
The memory puzzle in Technopolis is fucking brutal and I bet it filtered a good 80% of japs playing back in the day. I had to film my screen and slow it down just to beat it.
The ending is very polarizing, I'm still not really sure what I think of it.
A really memorable and soulful game that becomes a chore in it's second half because of typical adventure game bullshit.

Has anyone uploaded the stuff from the premium edition yet?

that's a really good review

personally i think the game is best experienced with a few friends playing it at the same time, can help you figure out some of the bullshit if u have some other people playing. some parts though youre definitely just gonna need a guide. wish it wasnt that way

It inspired modern class Undertale

>The memory puzzle in Technopolis

that was genuinely easy as fuck. besaidesthe fact there was only about six stages to it and you never had more than like a 1/8 chance to get it right. this is really the type of faggot that complains about puzzles in games. stop fucking saying "soul" too, learn to increase your damn vocabulary like an adult.

nobody is going crazy over it, its shill marketing/paid posters.

I loved it but the waiting around and BS puzzles stop it from being perfect.

Undertale is now retro, stop calling it a modern classic.
