It’s purposeful retard, you are supposed to have good and bad items so the game isn’t a generic item level = good like you get in world of trannycraft. Look up Kevin Jordan interviews

the itemization in vanilla is great, though.

Yeah, nah. This game is where it all went wrong. But it was still okay up until max level, where the true modern MMO autism begins.

>it was still okay up until max level, where the true modern MMO autism begins.

This is a problem created by doing away with the idea of losing items/experience on death. Ultima Online and Everquest didn't have the retarded end game autism content and level/stat cap power creep problems the WoW brought in, because there was always a way a player could actually, meaningfully lose.

The impermanence of progress - being able to lose gear that took months to acquire meant old MMO's never had these problems. By making progress permanent, WoW doomed itself - and the entire genre after it - to being all about 'end-game content'.

And now the whole genre is dead because of it.

Itemization is only good in Vanilla. Every raid drops useful loot at every point of the game.

>become WoW autist during TBC
>loads of great memories of TBC and WotLK playing with friends from both IRL and in-game
>Cata makes me quit because I had WoW burnout and Cata was garbage
>decide to come back last year
>play for several months and eventually stop some time early this year
>find the game itself is much more polished and is better than TBC and WotLK (as far as game mechanics and all that shit goes)
>but it's not as fun because it's 2020 and everybody is an anti-social weirdo now

The game hasn't been good for a decade now. The social aspect IS the game. Without players needing to organize guilds, cooperate to get to a dungeon, fight the other faction to get in, devise a method of distributing loot you get a glorified mobile game for wierdos. No one actually plays retail WoW anymore.
