What is it about this game that makes Nintendo fans seethe?

>> No.6982415

Better than Mario 64.

>> No.6982423

Better movement than SM64 shows that Nintendo made a mistake with the N64 controller design.

and to think the ruined the psp port, ape escape is really good, it holds up perfectly unlike M64 which holds up just (barely) okay

GODDAMNIT
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FUCKING FANGAMES FOR MARIO AND SONIC BUT NONE FOR THIS MASTERPIECE

Because it's a better Super Mario 64 than the real Super Mario 64

What is the best way to play this nowadays? How does each installment in the series rank against each other? I didn't really care for it as a kid, but I think I might be able to appreciate it a little better now.

I don't think about Ape Escape at all.

But I'm a Nintendo fan and I think Ape Escape is one of the best games on the PSone, and a great way to introduce everyone to using the Dualshock controller.

The fact that they immediately abandoned the franchise releasing a 2 phoned in sequels and then dropping it altogether.
Not even including it in their All star Battle game.
Just like every other franchise they collected from Small developers.

Sony fans like to think their detracters are die-hard nintendo fans, but a bulk of them are just older Die-hard playstation fans who were constantly strung along and left hanging.

Like fucking hell, look at jak and daxter. People understood they ND didn't have the rights to Crash. They stuck with ND and supported Jak and Daxter over Wrath of Cortex, Then they gut everything that Made Jak special, rotated out all the good talent at Naughty Dog, and we're left with a clout chasing Telltale clone that sells on brand alone.

It's heartbreaking to watch. Don't talk to me about seething.

This. Sony is awful at handling their inhouse developers.

A platformer with real transparencies and graphical FX like glows, CD audio with groovy japanese jungle instead of blurry graphics with no graphical FX and muffled audio from the N64.

>> No.6984117

Best 3D platformer ever. Innovative controls and gameplay. Instead of collecting coins or stars or some stupid shit like that, you are catching monkeys that are actively trying to evade you. And each monkey has a unique name, appearance, weapons, and difficulty. Level design is great and it gives you many opportunities to use all of your gadgets. Played through it entirely early this year and it holds up incredibly well. SM64 is also an amazing game but Ape Escape definitely beats it out while also having aged much more gracefully.

A lot of Playstation fans were raised with strong brand royalty mentality to the point they think it's impossible to enjoy videogames of the same genre if they're in other systems. Basically like Sega and Nintendo kids in the early 90s, but doing it unironically, and for a brand that isn't even video games.
