ITT: any kind of gaming memory from your childhood (unless it doesn't somehow involve retro games obviously)

>be 6 or 7, have N64 and not a lot of games for it (Pokemon Stadium, Pokemon Snap, Super Mario 64)
>go to local video store to rent games
>don't know anything about Zelda, Ocarina of Time looks cool though
>start a new file
>having fun wandering around Kokiri Forest
>first thing that happens in the dungeon is I get the Slingshot and I'm too stupid to figure out how to use it
>end up resetting the game
>see two other save files, check out the first one
>still child Link but I can leave the forest now
>walking around Hyrule Field is sweet and fighting skeletons and shit
>explore Hyrule Castle Town
>don't really know what I'm supposed to be doing in the game so eventually I get bored and reset again
>go into third file
>now I'm an adult
>walk outside
>Hyrule Castle Town is destroyed and all of its inhabitants are zombies
>run away in panic
>what the fuck is going on
>try to find my way back to Kokiri
>come upon the bridge that leads to the Gerudo area, the bridge is obviously out
>for some reason think that this is the same bridge that lead to the Kokiri Forest (that tiny area where Saria talks to you) just after years of ruin or whatever
>things have gone seriously, horribly wrong for everyone and I can't even go home
>shut off game
>don't play it again until it's time to return it to the video store

Opening my last present for xmas and it's a NES with Turtles. Hugging my mother and crying with excitement, I don't remember asking for this, but she knew me well. Spending the entire day taking turns with my younger brother taking down Shredder and the Foot Clan. Every new mechanic being astounding and the water level creating tension I had never felt. I got money off relatives and bought Metroid & Zelda on a whim the next day. My cousin got a NES with SMB & SMB2 and we all stayed at my nans for a few days playing these games all day and night. Thanks for reading my blog.

I had a similar experience OP.
>Bought a used copy for $15
>Had a finished save in it and I’m 8 so I want instant gratification
>Talk to Navi, tells me to go to the castle
>Terrified by all the spooky shit
>Finally get to Gannon
>Try over and over, finally learn the strats
>finally best him
>scary music and huge mutation into big pig demon
>shoots my sword away with magic
>shut the game off and don’t touch it until I’m 16

>Managed to run myself through the mountain pass close to Cross without dying and end up deep in the desert, save for the night
>Realize when I go back to it that everything would one-shot me and give up
>2 years later I remember how much I enjoyed what little I played of it
>Finally go back and get myself out of the desert by encountering the mana drainers I hadn't seen the first time around
>Way later on in the game get to the save outside the last boss
>Reset when I realize where I am, reload and head out of the tower to get publishing dosh and see what else there is to do
>Accidentally end up removing Indalecio's limiter without knowing it existed
>The fight ends up taking over 2 hours with my drastically underleveled party of randomly equipped characters, at some points spending 10+ minutes scrolling through my items for something to stall for time

No end boss encounter has felt even 1% as good to beat as that fight. I might start a new file just from talking about it
