There isn't any other pre-rendered game that looks quite like DKC, Nintendo or not.
Abe's Odyssey is nice, even Gex has some really nice graphics too, but the art direction in the DKC series (particularly 1, if you ask me, is still the one I like the most overall) is unmatched.
Nintendo themselves were able to do some really wicked stuff on Yoshi's Story though, independently if people like the game or not, you can't deny they utilized the pre-rendered graphics to make some convincing textures.

Maybe BOTW in terms of aesthetics.

The DKC games look and feel awesome. If this is a backlash to the troll that used to come here before and keep spamming shit about DKC graphics being bad because they "tricked" people into think they're 3d it's just not worth it. The graphics of DKC games had the look and feel of a 3d world while playing with 2d platform mechanics (best of all things in some ways) and are a clear step up over the likes of the simple 2d graphics of SMW, but let's not exaggerate cause there are plenty of modern 2d games like new super mario bros or dkc returns that also have good 3d backgrounds.

Abe's Exodus blows the DKC series out of the water.

It's on newer hardware so it has more colors, and Abe's art direction was always good too. I can see it as being an arguably match or maybe subjectively better than DKC but wouldn't say it blows it out of the water. I still prefer DKC's art direction a tad bit better - it's gritty and dark when it needs to, but it can also be very bright and colorful, Abe's more monothematic. It's up to subjective tastes, but yeah both make pretty great use of pre-rendered graphics.

The movement animations in DKC are terrible. Go play through Exodus, and you'll notice how every animation is very weighty and conveys momentum. In DKC, everything just sort of slip and slides all over the surfaces, like they aren't even coming in contact with them. It's one of those things that once you see it, you can't unsee it.

I think that what you're pointing out is the fact that Abe is a cinematic platformer (like PoP), so the animations have more "weight" to them opposed to arcade platformers.
There are a few instances in DKC where you will see the characters being able to stand almost in mid air. That's because DKC uses uniform tiles without clear edges, so the hitbox detection can appear confusing sometimes. With games like Abe it doesn't happen because cinematic platformers are slow-paced and make use of ledge-grabbing. For arcade-style platformers it's better to use uniform assets, like in Mario or Megaman, for better precision, and in games with uniform assets, like DKC or Earthworm Jim, you'll end up with some issues regarding land-detection. DKC solved it by allowing bigger hitboxes than it appears like, which can cause seeing the kongs stand in mid-air sometimes. On EWJ it was the opposite, hitboxes are smaller than they seem so you will sometimes fall through the platforms if your character didn't land exactly where the hitbox is.

That's part of it, but the big thing to me is the animations not being synchronized with an entity's relative speed, like they couldn't fit in enough animation frames with those high quality scanned in assets. I'd prefer low fidelity assets with better animation.

In that case I don't see what you're talking about. They did a great job animating everything on DKC.
