The teacher comes over and calms her down, and I get to move to the next booth where I can still smell her disgusting cunt, but it's not nearly as overpowering. Eventually, bell rings, and it's time to go home. As I'm leaving class, this ape hits me in the back of my head and starts screeching that she "finna git my bruva ta keeel you white boy". At this point I'm fucking furious, but I was raised properly and I know you can't hit a bitch, even when she hits you first and deserves it, so I spit in her face and called her a nigger.

Unfortunately, the teacher saw the entire thing, so we both ended up getting suspended for three days. I think that sums up going to school as a burger pretty well.

I like the Twilight Zone aspect of it. It's a real monkey's paw situation. I don't think people realize how many critical life events were right place, right time scenarios they can't accurately reproduce at will. Having to redo your life means trying to re-engineer these things. Your grades can determine your classes and the people in them that you bond with. Your wife who you happened to meet at a party at college? Now you have to make sure that you get into that college, meet the same people to get that same invite, make sure the party happens the same way so she shows, that you behave exactly as you did so she'll like you, hide the strain of that effort so you still come off as jovial and easy going, etc. Cost of failure at any point in this chain of events means people you love either never meet you or are just passing encounters.

That's actually why you have to savor the moments when you have them. When my grandfather died suddenly back when I was in high school it put me into a different perspective. Obviously I recognized death before that but I think it was then that I internalized the idea that nobody is guaranteed a tomorrow. I decided to enjoy as much time with my grandmother as I could, almost to a paranoid level. When she eventually died many years later I was weirdly zen and I think the sense of peace that I had was because I knew that there was nothing left to say.

Being a 30 year old in a teenager or kid's body would probably be horrific, and I'd have to make sure to forge the great friendships I have now. But I'd also want to change things and take my life into a different direction, so I'd never connect with some of these people if I never got into a hobby and a career I'd hate to do over again. So that's a really hard question.
