is there a place in /vr/ for someone who didn't game as a child?

can you briefly explain the sage and the redirect to reddit?

>> No.696448

Why yes, yes there is. THE EXIT. GEDDAFUKKOUT.

Just messing. You had a terribly deprived childhood if you weren't left alone in front of a game system all day because it was cheaper than actually going somewhere. Oh wait. THAT'S terrible. Oh well, either way, welcome welcome. Pull up a wheeled office chair and bask in the... mess.

>> No.696456

Of course, provided you ignore the /v/ dregs like: >>696442

And of course an interest in retro gaming will help

>> No.696452

>>696438

of course.

but lurk and post without going on about how you didnt game as a child. i dont really care but you will be bombarded by /v/irgins who desperately need a reason to feel good about themselves, and around here faggots feel accomplished because they've spent their entire lives being a shut-in.

i kinda wish i could switch places with you and experience the glory of this vidya for the first time again

Of course, op. I'd say you're more sincere than most of the AVGN gaming scholars and retro fad idiots just for admitting that so.

As for recommendations, you might want to tell us what genre you're most interested in - wrpgs, jrpgs, platformers, etc - and for which system.

for someone who has never vidya'd, probably not.

but on the other hand you can't really go wrong with what you choose. mario/zelda are easy and fun places to start.

You can think of we /vr/ troopers as kind of like archaeologists who can help you see where your favorite games evolved from and maybe even examine where they branched off from some other similar type of game. In this way you can expand your gaming experience organically and learn to appreciate nuance you may have never known existed.

Like, I see you posted Mirror's Edge there. There are so many do-or-die 3D platformers you might enjoy or you could take it back to the place where it all started. Pic related.

lately i've been playing quite a lot of rts and rpgs(not sure of the difference between western and japanese just yet), i also enjoy hack n slash and platformers
don't know much about platforms pre ps1

You might as well just play Earthbound first and then Terranigma because they'll give you the most cred on /vr/. After that, Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana and shit like that but for some reason /vr/ has a lot of contempt for Square games. Probably "too mainstream" for hipsters.

Listen, heathens, just because you haven't accepted the love of Earthbound into your hearts n'or do you believe Castlevania IV was the last true great game in that series it doesn't mean we can't find a special place for you on our board.
Look, there are even some threads about filters and CRTs for you people!

/vr/ is for retro games, not retro people. You are welcome here as long as you love retro games.

are you here for suggestions, or approval? You don't need approval, just go play something.

Good list here, OP. Look through it and see if anything seems neat

I don't see anything wrong with this.

I am 30 years old myself and I don't see why someone who is a lot younger can't enjoy retro games. Maybe they are tired of modern games and want to try something different?

It is just the young kids at my local retro game store (that work there and shop there) with MLP shirts that are trying to tell me what is good and judging every game decision I make.

I myself haven't actually beaten that many games and as a kid didn't play as many games as most people here but every day I find out something new and find out new games to play here.

The concept that you need to be a certain age to like retro games is asinine, and the board needs to change its attitude about it.
I'm 19 myself but grew up with my fathers Super Nintendo and an old Gameboy. It wasn't until 2000 or so when I finally got a new system. I grew up with shit like Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Megaman X, Goof Troop, Turtles in Time and Donkey Kong Country.

It's pretty frustrating being called out as a hipster for collecting and enjoying games I've been playing since I was 3 years old.

/vr/ is composed mostly of oldfags who grew up with these games, or younger hipsters who enjoy playing retro games, ironically or not.

Either way compared to /v/ we're generally a friendlier bunch with less shit posting and more helpful, informative posts.

Have fun

That just kind of goes hand in hand with an older demographic.
