overrated. sim parts are really dull and it was the right call to scrap them in 2.

Very early snes game and it kinda shows. Its simple and feels almost like an NES game which makes sense. Simple doesn’t mean bad though. They love showing off that fancy mode 7 zooming to start a level. Ideas were solid, but the simulation part was barebones at best and a drag after the first few. Now much is added to keep the player interested and theres a lot of top-down shooter grinding. The platformer parts were also a bit bare bones. But it has a lot going for it too. The combo of god sim and platformer is cool. The bosses are one of the highlights. Its good for kids I guess but the platforming might be a bit hard for them. No replay value really, same every time. The final boss guantlet is difficult. The platforming feels like linear super metroid with a single jump, crouch and two sword slashes crouching and standing. Theres one powerup, swordbeam. As someone else said its not top 10 for the snes but Id say its in the top 25. And no game combines the two play styles like this that I know of.

I wish they'd expanded it if anything. The sim part could have been really cool. Imagine a new version where you build your world and have to protect from invaders while invading other players. It'd be roguelite Dark Souls
