Played through this game again. It's extremely underrated. It doesn't matter to me that it was Doki Doki reskinned with Mario characters.

I'm going to do a playthrough again as Luigi like a quasi hard mode. I consider Princess easy mode.

This game is begging for a remake with graphics in the style of the Link's Awakening Remake.

What's your favorite world in SMB2? Favorite boss? I like world 5 and Wart.

It's probably my favorite 2D Mario. I'm pretty partial to the world with the whales, and the one where you have to cross a long pit on the backs of the birds. I'd probably pick Mouser as a favorite boss but Birdo's classic for a reason. I love how much variation they managed to squeeze out of such a simple boss concept.
I'd love to see Subcon return some way in 3d Mario or the spinoffs. It deserves a Mario Kart track at some point.

It's the only Mario game I ever actually liked. Finding out it was a different series made sense.

Consider a play of Doki. It's a different feeling game without being able to run.

Disassembly of SMB2 shows that the game was apparently switched to using MMC3 at the last moment and it had been meant as an MMC1 game--it doesn't use any MMC3 features except animated tiles. Also it replaced the original noise channel percussion from DDP with DCPM samples.

This game is probably my favourite of the first 3 on NES. I love the controls, variety and style of the game.

Mouser a best. Tryclyde a close second

it's basically a Mario game from its origin anyway

Just reminds me I never did a no princess, no warp run of this game. I should try it someday

Mouser, Triclyde, Fryguy, and Clawgrip are all classics. It's hard to pick a favorite. I thought Fryguy was the most fun and unique one to fight though.

I could never get into Super Mario Bros 2. Love 1 and 3 though.

You and the one guy that posts about jet set willy every day should be hanged by the tip of your penis for an hour.

No one cares. Everyone copies everything from everyone. That’s how it works.

As a kid I always played almost the whole game as Luigi. His jump has the second longest hang time and is second fastest (I think) at picking up objects. I haven't played it since I was a youngster though. I never used Mario or Toad because they can't jump.

>> No.6954442

Nah, Luigi is the slowest at picking shit up, I'm sure. That's his only downside, I daresay he's easymode with his awesome high floaty jumps.

The amount of zoomer Nintendrones who treat this game like some weird, inconsequential offshoot game is stupefying. Everything from the character select, the long, elaborate levels that forces you to think instead of just reacting on pure instinct were revolutionary for its time, plus the game sold stupid well.

The amount of zoomer Nintendrones who treat this game like some weird, inconsequential offshoot game is stupefying. The long, elaborate levels that involved more than just acting on instinct and copy-pasting enemy sections and ability to chose from a variety of characters with stats and abilities was revolutionary for its time, plus the game sold stupid well, so it's not like the advancements it made went unnoticed.

Luigi is easiest for people who don't like video games; he frees you from having to interact with the game as much. You can spend more time waiting, with him. Princess is easiest for normal people. Toad is easiest or second easiest for people who like games and are not terrible at them, because he provides the most control and his actions are the least laggy.

Always picked luigi, the flutterkick attention to detail is so fucking soulful, I can't even believe it

Though that's not really on account of the MMC3 switch, is it? The SMB2 prototype uses DPCM samples too but doesn't feature any of the extra animated tiles of the final.

No but for me it depends on the playthrough I go with. Level 1 = Mario, level 2 = Luigi, ect.

>> No.6959789

I think this is a misconception, people think he's the easiest but his slipperyness and lack of power actually gets you killed a lot. He trivializes some parts of the game while also making other really hard.

>> No.6960369

Luigi is easy mode dude, with the super jump you can skip entire level sections in the first world

>> No.6960510

>>6960369
I totally agree, but some of the later levels really require you to slow down while Toad and Mario have those same levels designed around their speed and jump height, especially mario. I would say peach is the true easy mode since float is underrated as fuck. A lot of the later levels have you heaving a bunch of bombs and turnips and keys and shit, something luigi simply isn't very good at. I would almost go as far to say that luigi is a noob trap, he's really good at the beginning of the game where the learning curve is very forgiving and you can skip a lot with him, but people will play the entire game with him, even on levels where he's actually really shit in and just die over and over on those levels, because of the "comfort" luigi gave them on the first easy levels

>> No.6960765

I'm surprised at all these comments saying Luigi is easy. I always thought he was the hardest since his floatiness makes it harder to land on small platforms, and especially small moving enemies.

>> No.6960893

>>6960765
That's precisely why he's a noob trap, you explained it a lot better than I could. The first levels don't require you to do stuff like that.

The level where you have to float on an egg over the sea is unironically the best
