Oh man, the difference betwen the harware graphics and the accellerated one was so huge it blew my mind!
Only playing Tomb Raider 2 with 3DFx on was a totally different experience!

Well, it was a well made game to be honest (aside from questionable RTwP combat, which I hate, because it never did it job properly) with one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in RPG. VA was good, too. And it wasn't that pretty. Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale looked better.

Fallout was alright, again, aside from horrendous combat and companions' A.I. Quest design, c&c and art-direction were good and that's about it. And Mark Morgan is one of the most overrated and talentless composer of all time.

He's so unoriginal, that it hurts. He doesn't have his own style and vision. He loves Roach and Eno? That's alright. But his own tracks sound like Roach's and Eno's b-sides. He has no personality at all. And he damn sure loves copy-pasting. Listen to P:T" there's about 10+ variations of main theme.

>> No.695546

>>695535
Maybe he takes after Steve Roach, but I don't hear Eno all that much in there. Pretty sure a lot of tracks, like the Redding theme, don't sound like either of them much - apart from the very fundamentals (under which you could accuse any ambient musician to sound like "Roach's and Eno's b-sides").

It's not about disliking a game, it's about shitposting. If you insist on criticising a widely acclaimed game, you're going to have to come with better arguments than "No. No. No. No, again. Nope. It's more simplistic than Thief." If you're going to be posting like this, "gb2/v/" is the only type of response you deserve.

Further, the game's flaws are well known by fans, and they still consider it one of their favorites despite those flaws. What are you trying to achieve by attempting to argue that it is "overrated"?

>> No.695875

Maybe he wanted to know why it's still liked despite its numerous flaws, liked enough that it has earned its massive cult status so much more than other, more solid games from its era.

>> No.695926

>>695875
It's certainly more reasonable to put it that way than to start the conversation by announcing that a game is overrated.

I can only speak for myself, but I can't think of a comparison for SS2. It's a unique experience. The kind of presence that the antagonist has throughout the game is almost one of a kind, and I greatly enjoyed the complexity of both the layout of the ship and the tasks you're given. Add in the nerve-wracking hum of the ship's systems (and awesome sound design in general) as you try to plan your actions while at the same time listening and watching carefully for wandering enemies, and you get a very intense experience.

I can see how that wouldn't work for everyone, but it should be enough to justify the following that the game has. And it's not like those other games don't have their fans as well.
