I always assumed its because motos never had much of a performance tuning scene, unlike cars, people just sell their bikes and buy a faster one instead of bothering with project stuff.
If you had money, it would probably just be used to buy hilariously price inflated for game balance bikes and mundane handling parts, tire purchases and transmission upgrades. No replacement for displacement.

the license tests are not hard to get at least bronze on all of them, and most of the races you can just cheese with a high power racecar once you get one. for horsepower limited races, just make sure you are exactly at the HP limit, and have the suspension, transmission, and weight reduction upgrades. its really not a hard game once you unlock the races that award you race cars that sell for tons of credits. just farm those races and sell the extra prize cars and smash the game with your unlimited money

Everything about RR is great. But am I the only person that doesn't like the car handling? It's not that it's hard, it just the drifting looks and feels so wrong to me. It might just be the camera.

I'm mainly play 1st person but i've tried both. I've tried 4 and the PSP game. To me it feels like the cars handle weird, i'm am not really sure I could describe it beyond "stiff". Maybe it's the way you gain traction when you drift. Would you recommend any other games in the series? Might give Rage Racers a go.

>>6932968
Stiff describes it well. There isn't much of a transition between "all the traction" and "you are now sideways," and exiting a drift is a sudden state change that either rockets you forward, rockets you into a wall, or chunks thirty MPH off your current speed once you stop correcting (which feels really fucking weird, but it's been around since RR1 so it's pretty much a game mechanic now). IIRC one of the car types in the PSP games loses control more gradually, but don't quote me on that. Some of the games also basically put you completely on rails while drifting, meaning there's less attention you have to pay to taking the corner (using throttle and steering to change how sharp you're taking it) and more to keeping it pointed in the direction of the exit, which lets you do ridiculous silliness like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzMOGZ6tCoE

>Would you recommend any other games in the series? Might give Rage Racers a go.
Definitely try Rage Racers, and I'd also say try the original game, just for the experience. It's barebones and kind of clunky but man does it have style and the best announcer in the series. I'd also say try RRV if you can get PCSX2 running nicely (never got the hang of the handling in that one, but you might take to it easy) and the PS3 games can be emulated apparently now too. So I guess I'm saying try 'em all? They're not exactly hard to annoying to get into, you mash X a few times and you're in a race.

The arcade one feels like shit if you don't have an analog input set up and tuned juuuust right, as it's expecting a full steering wheel and analog pedals. The PS1 port is fine- better than fine, really, it was practically a system seller- and is the one 90% of people played. Ridge Racer Revolution is just RR1 plus another track and car, but the original's soundtrack is way better.

Absolute all time favorite racing game. Mostly braindead, but the tracks look fuckin sweet and the absurd AI and bullshit reverse courses where the cars come at you make up for it enough. Still haven't seen a racing game that pulled off the interconnected courses bit with seperate tracks being connected during head to heads pulled off even half as well in any other game. PS2 version is arcade stage 2+ in a way. It has some balance changes. (like the integra isn't a god machine anymore) but it misses content from 3. It does have a pretty cool story mode and a larger sound track then any of the other games.
There is also a PSP version as well that's really good. It's a home part of Arcade stage 3 and has some neat stuff in it. Just confined to the PSP. A very solid port overall.

If you're just getting into the series I'd recommend emulating the arcade version of stage 3 and if you like what you see move on to the others. 3,5, and 8 are the "final" versions of the games. As every few stages they completely revamp the game and physics.

you should get a platinum trophy and unlimited money for beating those shits all gold. or give you the Polyphony Formula Gran Turismo car for beating all gold, instead of locking it and it's race series behind a retarded 24 hour race, that even in B-Spec autopilot will take you 9+ hours to win, even if you speed up x3 (that's it? the manual says you can go x5 reee) and you have to sit there for 9+ hours and speed up time again every time the car needs a pit stop, plus the B-Spec driver is a retard, tl;dr, endurance races in games aren't fun so stop making them a requirement to 100% games
even the "coffee breaks" in GT4 license tests are not a break, you don't get anything for beating them with the gold time, and they suck worse than the normal tests. also I hate coffee.

yes, with MAME, and a powerful computer.
>>6942241
>well until sport,
not retro reeeeeeeeee
also I wouldn't consider (retro) GT games a sim, just more realistic than the other games at the time.
but sims are soulless because racing is a business and race drivers are employees under contract, they have to do what their team wants and what their sponsors want.
a REAL sim would make you stand around for hours signing autographs for fans, and then in the middle of the season the team would randomly drop you from the team because they found a pay driver who brought in more money than you.

God. What a question, my answer might not be the norm. I remember I played it once as a little kid in the arcades and I was instantly hooked on it. Like autistically so. I remember searching non stop around the internet for toys and or merch of this game, desperately. I would also scour every single arcade I went to in search of this game, and if I found it, played the fuck out of it. THEN, I learned there was a GameCube and Gameboy port of it and the autism levels shot up to dangerous levels. I needed a GameCube and I needed it now. In my begging of my parents if I could potentially acquire a GameCube for Christmas with "the taxi game" I accidentally discovered crazy taxi, which is one of my all time favorite games. That's another story though. I also ended up with the gameboy port, which is probably long gone for me now, and realized back as a little kid that this wasn't the definitive way to play it . Anyway, I finally got the GameCube, finally got the home port and PLAYED RHE FUCK out of it. Then like a year later I sold the GameCube for a wii. The end. Last time I played this game was like 2 or 3 years ago? I worked at a truck stop restaurant, and they had one of the cabinets right next to the restaurant. It was still an enjoyable ride, and I do have my GameCube port somewhere. I'll have to give it another whirl again.
In terms of gameplay, it's a point to point racer, with up to I believe one other cab linked for competitive play. Make it from the start to the end quickest by taking shortcuts and using power ups to destroy the city around you. The levels were filled to the brim with set pieces, props, pedestrians, cars. I believe the devs made another arcade game I rarely see talked about called Tokyo cop or something like that. Another car game. Thanks for reading my blog.

the only legit arcade around me closed down in the late 90's. it was at the local mall, they took away all the games and replaced it with a shitty food court.
Chuck E Cheese hung on for awhile into the 2000's with legit arcade games (like>>6945742), but now it's just ticket game bullshit and I feel like it's not appropriate to go to Chuck E Cheese alone as an almost 30 year old man.
closest "arcades" to me are now 3 hours away, and it's either a hipster "barcade" with overpriced drinks, or an amusement park that for some reason still has Time Crisis 3.

I've suffered a drought for YEARS, with a few spots to go to that aren't close, but some big names are opening up near me so we'll see if the glory days return. If I were you,try and set aside some time, get a couple friends that would enjoy one of those semi decent ones far from you, make a little day or 2 day trip of it. You'll have a wonderful time I gurantee it. hope you like your "It can't be helped"'s with your 100% lit trans, because competent people, like the other guy said, localize and try not to make phrases 1:1 between languages, as that would sound incredibly retarded and be unenjoyable to read. referring back to MGS, everything after 1 sounds stilted and there's way more jargon than needed.

What are the best racing games for PSP? I just tried all Need for Speed games and they were a mixed bag, I know some of them aren't technically retro.

Underground Rivals was fun launch title with lot of event variety even though it only had 10 tracks, I also liked the nonlinear progression with a checklist it could get pretty difficult though
Most Wanted 5-1-0 was really underwhelming, no event variety, the blacklist almost completely copied from original game and the cops were fucking annoying.
Carbon Own the City was easily the best, I would even say it's as good if not better and longer than the main game. Original and darker story, better crew member system, much larger variety and it was the only one with open world even though it was just MW map mirrored.
Prostreet was meh like the main game, I don't rally have much else to say about it, it just bored me.
Undercover was also crap like other versions, the graphics were ugly for the time and everything about it felt dated
Shift was basically Burnout Dominator with a Prostreet skin, not bad

I was not gonna bother with GBA and DS versions of those games since they look like garbage.
I also tried Burnout Legends which was fun

Also, I'm afraid it doesn't say LIQUID SOUL on the back, at least not on my copy, I assume that is a watermark from the uploader of that scan. I will say that it summarises the game well, and that it was appropriate enough for me to check my physical copy.

depends on the game.
for the best performance you have to set up different settings profiles for each game, because what works on one game might not work on another.
or even within the same game, example:
>Gran Turismo 4
>have to turn EE/IOP clamping mode to "normal" and VU clamping mode to "normal" when you are doing the license tests, otherwise the game freezes.

Been playing a lot of this game recently. Finally got decent at drifting with my S13. Anyone else here an Xtreme Drifter?

Could you tell me your graphics settings for this? I was playing the other day with the deinterlacing patch and the ground just looked like fucking shit no matter what I did. Was running at 1080p with FXAA on and AF seemingly did nothing for the ground looking bad.

appreciated it, anon.

turns out the race isn't so tight after all. polyphony put quite soft rubber compound under the honda's, so they pitted after six laps. meanwhile I had the hardest slicks on so I pitted after 14 laps.

feels like there is some rubber banding going on with the ai. if they are just behind you, they can keep up quite well. but after the gap is around two seconds, you'll never seem 'em again.

Bumping this thread with some modded Carbon. Been playing the Battle Royale mode, it's kind of shit but the creators sucked off a streamer so it's 10/10 lol. Remember to turn this shit OFF so you won't randomly find yourself with all 4 blown tires during a pursuit.

I liked how putting initial D character names in the game gave you bonus money.
Also is there an unlock guide for this game? I know the A70 supra is in it but I could never unlock it.

God I don't remember this game being so glitchy. Caution came out and it never ended then all the trucks except a few stopped on the turn and the rest came around and crashed into all of us.

is that dirt to daytona?
i started playing it and got to modifieds but it was so boring and frustrating to play and felt so repetitive like i'd have to play through the season so many times until i could finally upgrade my cars and win

i didnt even get to the proper nascar races

Not that Anon but I tried watching a play through of it and managed to get bored. Seems very "micro-management".

I believe Dirt to Daytona's engine was recycled for Test Drive: Eve of Destruction / Driven to Destruction which even 16 years later I'm still frustrated was never released on PC.

I've noticed a few weird glitches playing it in Dolphin that I never experienced on Gamecube. Worst was having the lap counter simply stop advancing 2 laps from the end of a race and instantly going from the lead to the last car on the lead lap.

Turning up the difficulty can actually net you more money, and going back and doing lower tier races with the high paying sponsors can net you a decent sum. But it isn't for everybody, it can get rather repetitive and the Ai will sometimes jump up in difficulty. I won 8 races in a modified season and somehow I only won the title by 40 points

>>6975802
>very "micro-management"
There's really only Pit crew (which is just hiring the best one when you have the money) and buying parts which are just straight upgrades. At most you may have to debate getting exhaust that is better for short tracks or an aero package that makes the car looser. There's more micro-management in racing mini-games in other games honestly.

I've been wanting to play Daytona USA for the first time lately. Any recommendations on the version to use? I mean, should I use the (old) windows version, or should I try an emulator?

I had some fun replaying this a couple of months ago. I always preferred CMR and then RBR games when I was younger, but I keep coming back to VRally 2 over the years, I just feel it nailed arcade rally racing for me. I get a similar feel to it that my mate gets from Sega Rally, it seems.
