Why so much hate for the 64 when this was worse in every single way possible? It's the only generation where SEGA got straight up blown the fuck out in every department by Nintendo

>> No.6927715

The "hate" you see online for the N64 is a very loud minority of console war fanboys, most people like the console.
With the Saturn, while maybe not as popular, it's still a console that got a lot of love over the years, people learned to appreciate it, it's just that in the west it had very questionable marketing decisions, partly due to Stolar.
Console warriors ARE a minority, most normal people don't partake in it.

It's kind of a tie because while saturn sold more hardware, n64 sold more software.

I don't "hate" the N64, it's just that it has so few good games that it's such a non-entity as time goes on.

No way to tell, but majority of the time it's Sony fans, both anti-Saturn and anti-N64 threads. Many of it might be falseflag though, but considering how Sony fans behave on /v/, it might be genuine.

Felt like it never reached it's potential in the US. If FirePro was released outside of Japan it would have had given the 13 year old me a hands-free orgasm.

But only when it comes to Nintendo. When every other console gets hate it's because it sucks.

This honestly seems to be finger pointing. Every time an N64 fan is called out for starting one of these console wars, they immediately try to blame Sony Fans. Case in point, this very thread is started by an N64 fan, and is definitely aimed at starting one.

>> No.6927869

>>6927867
OP of this thread might be a N64 fanboy, but that doesn't excuse all the other hundreds of pro-Sony/anti-Sega/Nintendo threads.
In the end, all fanboys are bad, I'm not excusing Nintendo or Sega fans. But I do believe that Sony fans are the worst.

>> No.6927874

>>6927867
I think you're OP, and you're a Sony fan trying to falseflag to get a Nintendo vs Sega thread going.
See how >>6927715 never specifically referred to any specific brand, he just blamed console wars.
Then, >>6927819 (most likely you) pointed the finger to N64 fans.

>> No.6927875

>>6927867
Yes, Nintendo fans try their hardest to play both sides when convenient, and attempt to convince other sides to not participate giving them monopoly on the narrative. Any opposition or criticism of Nintendo their systems or games is considered console wars. However anything against Sega or Sony is not. It's only console wars when it's directed at Nintendo.

In fact, in the first reply to your post there's the exact deflection we're talking about. It's a slimy, pathetic attempt at shifting blame. Everyone's a Nintendo fan until it's convenient not to be one, right?

>> No.6927878

>>6927869
I honestly don't see many of those threads. There seems to be more threads like
>What do you mean the N64 isn't the best?
>WTF you guys like the Saturn now!? But it can't do 3D?
>But no one likes JRPGs anyways! 3D Platformers are better!
>Games from Japan don't count! Only US released 3D games!

Which is again, right out of the N64 fanboy playbook.

>>6927878
JRPGs are a shit genre though.

>> No.6927883

Nah, all the japan-only "hidden gems" gather 0 discussion, people just post the boxarts and call it a day.

You don't belong on the internet. You MUST pick a company and stick with it.

>> No.6927914

N64 was a more expensive console back then. Not the system itself, but the games were expensive.
There was a clear social division between N64 kids and PlayStation kids. Over time, the PS kids developed resentful feelings toward N64 users, and in turn, projected said feelings toward the system itself and its games.
They're also probably angry about the fact that, despite N64 having a smaller library, people talk more about N64 games compared to PS games. Or at least the discussion is pretty even. In their minds, they can't comprehend that a system that sold much less and has so much less titles is basically on par (if not more) in terms of popularity.
As someone who isn't a big fan of 5th gen in general, I can say that you can be cruel about any of the 3 system's graphics, if you want to, but all 3 systems got some really good games. I just think the notion of PS being "the winner" and having a seemingly unlimited library damaged the Sony fan's perception, because on one hand they think that they are immune to criticism due to PS being the "winner" of the generation, so there's a sort of short circuit going on in their heads when that narratives isn't reflected in reality (people actually having as much love for the N64 as for the PS)

>> No.6927915

>>6927903
>PS1 threads are just circlejerks about the same 15 or so games
At least they reach that much.
No one would defend the library of the N64 if it wasn't for the N part.

It's more that the Saturn over the past decade has become more popular and is getting looked back on more fondly. So N64 fans don't like that they now may have to share the 2nd place spotlight.

Saturn>N64>>>>PS1
Having a PS1 as a kid was more convenient since it was cheaper games and easy piracy, but now that I can afford anything I want, N64+Saturn is the superior experience.

>> No.6927942

>>6927938
I actually don't like banjo, played only the first one, never bothered with the sequel. Would rather play Goemon or Bomberman.

>> No.6927974

My personal reasons, being an N64 owner back then with a cousin that had a Saturn:
>Saturn games were cheaper
>Saturn had RGB SCART, N64 only composhite
>Saturn had more game variety and more 3rd party games, up to 1997-1998
>N64 used battery for memory cards and some cartridges, Saturn had internal battery backed memory, but could be changed with the console on and the save cartridge used flash memory

N64 was nice for Mario 64, Zeldas, and some party games. The library is more focused and has its appeal, the main gripes I have are hardware-related, namely video output and battery saves.

Swap N64 with PSX.
N64 didn't have enough 2D master race games, just a bunch of janky 3D that's aged very poorly.

Yabause was a decent emulator, but the people working on it stubbornly refused to support multi bin formatted games which was basically the entire Redump collection. Two forks came from this. Yaba Sanshiro and Kronos. I haven't tried either of those, but I was so put off by the original developers I've used nothing but Mednafen and the Mednaffe front end for the past few years.

Ummmm did N64 or PS1 have arcade quality 2D fighter ports?? No? What the fuck have you been smoking? The Saturn was a 2D beast.
