Japan? What about Japan? Yeah we got some of those Nip programmers working for us, HAL. Atari? Atari's biting the dust, the Atari machines can't even compare to the Commodore. We're going to open up markets in Great Britain, Europe, get computers for the masses not the classes.

Which one was the Italian system of choice?

Honestly, the "computer for the masses not the classes" phrase is great, but in the grand scheme of things Tramiel fucked up big time, and Japan is still considered the saviour of gaming, like it or not.
*triggers you with a simple pulse line logo*
nothing personnel.

Gaming never really died, people bought games, them being good or shitty is irrelevant. There was an industry.

Depends how you want to look at it, really. Most of retrocomputer is taken as a joke, while retro console games from Japan are beloved to this day, even by younger audiences that don't have nostalgia for them.
The fact the Famicom logo is a pulseline is a fantastic coincidence (or is it?).

So? The popular (and wrong) narrative is "Atari died and then no one wanted games anymore" not "Atari died and then the Western market (including America) moved to computers until the japs took over and made consoles popular again" which is what actually happened.

>Sues them when they leave
>Burns bridges with any and all retailer and supplier he works with, just to get short-term profit
>Aggressively pushes horribly quality computers to people who did not need them at little or no profit, over-flooding the home market and destroying future sales

>Eventually gets the boot that

>Buys Atari
>Steals new home computer project from Commodore to release it as ST
>Applies the same tactics
>Hardware stops selling a few years later due to said tactics
>Cant get any new projects going outside of prototype stages because of being a huge micro-managing penny-pincher
>Projects that do see the light of day never succeed because he didn't want to spend money to support them
>Atari goes bust because he cheaped out on development and documentation, resulting in an unfinished console that nobody knew how to code for
>Also just refused 2 million European Jaguar pre-orders because he didn't wanna pay higher taxes, just to ship all the stock to US, where it all sat in warehouses, unsold.

Well done, you filthy jew.

The Tramiels were some of the worst business people in history. Sunk both Commodore and Atari back-to-back just for a few quick bucks.

Dude...Jack had nothing to do with the Jaguar; he'd retired by that time. That was Sam Tramiel's fault.

Jack had his faults and was a dick but Commodore withered under his successors since they had no drive and were lazy complacent fucks who assumed they could milk way outdated hardware forever.

Based on what I've read, Jack was just clueless about marketing and relegated that to other departments. Sam was also a notorious bullshitter (i.e. the Jaguar interview in Next Generation) but he seemed to get along with everyone.

The Tremial everyone supposedly hated was Leonard.

>*single handedly revives gaming
he was one of the reasons why the gaming crash happened, all due to ever decreasing prices for their computers. this is part of the reason why the c64 became one of the biggest selling computers in all of history. nothing could compete with it until the amiga came out, then nothing came even close to what the amiga could do until the 1990s.

Yeah he trashed the North American low end computer market. Europe wasn't affected but by 1984 there was nothing left here but Commodore.

>Irving Gould and Mehmet Ali did.
they plundered it and drove it into the ground due to incompetence and mismanagement. instead of putting money into R&D they seriously believed a minor update to the platform would turn their fortunes around. by the time commodore released the amiga cd32, 600 and 1200, most people inside and outside of commodore knew they were well and truly fucked. US side of Commodore were completely incompetent at promoting these new abortions called computers. all of that work was done by a small group of people within Commodore UK. those machines would never have sold at all if Commodore UK weren't so passionate about the amiga and saving their own jobs.

>> No.6923123

>>6923105
Commodore was actually making unholy amounts of money back then but most of that went into buying Irving Gould sports cars and beach homes in Hawaii. Jack didn't like him and hadn't wanted him to take over the company, had he not been expelled, he would have let his sons succeed him (though they were incompetent in a different way).

And yes, just before the bankruptcy in spring 94, they'd planned to turn over management of the entire company to the UK division.

>They didn't sink Commodore, Irving Gould and Mehmet Ali did.

They all did. Tramiel fucked over all suppliers, retails and business partners during his time and flooded the market with cheap, shoddily built computers at almost no profit margins. Commodore might have been profitable in 1983, but, that came at the cost of future profits. They were in deep shit in 1984 thanks to him.

Gould and Ali just continued to fuck the company instead of trying to save it by slashing R&D to get short-term profits.

Commodore's Q/C did get a lot better post-Tramiel although that was more just a general industry trend of improving hardware reliability as the personal computer industry was maturing. And yeah the early C64s were pretty flakey but it was a new machine and it took a while before they got the production process down pat.
