Similar story
>hunting for a copy of ghost in the shell ps1
>can't find anything under $70
>finally see one for $65, go for it
>next day 2 copies pop up, one for $60, and another (disc only) for fucking $50
Welp.

>you and someone else are the two people shopping at the time who are most willing to spend money on that game
>second biggest spender bids, say, $50, you bid $60 and win it for $51 or whatever the minimum increment is
>third guy most willing to spend bid $23
>you are out of the buying pool
>another listing is available
>bidder 2 and 3 from the one you won still want the game and their spending habits haven't changed much
>bidder 2 bids $50 on the new listing, bidder 3 again bids $23
>auction 2 now ends at $24
There could be other factors and situations, but with two auctions for the same game in similar condition ending close together, that's a possible scenario.

Collecting is literally just throwing your money away for no reason. It doesn't even go to the devs. There's no reason to complain about being "ripped off."

Give me $50 and you can have my japanese copy of D for the Saturn. What? You make money and like games what's the problem?

Auctions are gay as fuck now. Either the guy starts the auction at the price he wants it to sell or there's some chode with an 'I don't care how much' max bid. You can get a better price with Buy it Now.

Ebay started sucking years ago. Theres always some retarded coomlector ready to impulse buy something for way too much. It runs the prices up and makes every other retard think their item should sell for the same amount.

What's the quality like on the one that's 45% cheaper?

I've learned that it's worth paying more for a copy that's in better shape after falling into the trap of rebuying titles just for a better case, manual or cart.

Don't feel too bad.

I've pretty much resigned to just finding reasonable BINs, maybe tossing in an offer if available, and not messing with auctions unless it is the only way. Yes, you can save money through auctions, but you're probably just as likely to run into somebody who gets dead set on winning and will just bid the current BIN price or higher. Option two is to bid on the auction, place a last second snipe bid for the going BIN rate, and if you lose just immediately buying the BIN listing.
