Finished Godspeed Goemon! vs. the Space Pirate Akogingu, what did I think of it?

Also should I start PS2 Goemon or DS Goemon next? They're all I have left to beat.

It's a weird game, like bootleg Goemon 3. It has this weird knock off feel, not just because they replaced Yae and Sasuke with weird characters, but the overall atmosphere. Not a big fan of the character's walking/running cycle animation either, makes the controls feel a bit off.
IIRC, Akogingu was developed by a team that never worked on Goemon games before, right? It wasn't by the actual Goemon Team. Still, it's much better than the Shin Sedai nonsense, at least this one still feels like Goemon, albeit a bit weird.
Actual game was OK, as I said it felt like a weird Goemon 3, which isn't my favorite in the series, but still fine I guess.
PS2 Goemon is really bland on all aspects, I got bored of it halfway through. You can try it out but it feels unfinished, and also lacks any classic Goemon humor or designs. If you want to play a comfy old Japan adventure game on PS2, you're better off playing Okami.
DS Goemon is good, do play it. It was the Goemon Team's swan song.

Akokingu shared staff with SOTN.
Then the actual Goemon team worked on Circle of the Moon.

>Still, it's much better than the Shin Sedai nonsense
Shin Sedai is completely outscourced.

>[PS2 Goemon] feels unfinished
Because it is.

>DS Goemon is good, do play it. It was the Goemon Team's swan song.
Amen. They left the company just after it.

I'm pretty sure Konami Kobe developed that. They were more like the Goemon B-Team to Osaka's A-Team.

Nice write-up. My biggest beef with Akogingu was how the sidescroller parts were a bit too basic compared to 3's, which had almost Metroidvania-like dungeons.
Oh, and a surprising lack of Impact. Only one sidescroller level and 3 boss fights? Lame.
The regular bosses were cool though, and some of the hardest in the series. Also, fabulous OST.

>Shin Sedai
Why do people repeat that, that game is a short and sweet arcade. It's by definition better than Zelda item chain trade trash.

I admit Shin Sedai is not a HORRIBLE game, just average. It still has some Konami quality there, but it's not amazing either, just OK. When you combine that, with the fact that it infamously bastardized the charm of the Goemon series, then it's obvious people will have a strong bias against it.
If it didn't use the Goemon game, probably people would have it as one of those OK 2D platformers from 5th gen like Spunky or Little Ralph.

It's only "bad by comparison". Same thing happens to Mega Man, people always need to pick one to hate on, even if all of them by itself are pretty solid.

If Shin Sedai had been skinned as a separate IP instead of a Goemon spinoff, people would call it the hidden gem of PS1 action platformers.

I decided I'm going to play PS2 next and save the best for last.

I've got this game on disc but don't have a way to play it. Only have an EU PS2 slim and PS3. Anyone know how I can get it to run?

I suppose you could soft mod either to play imports, but if you're going that far you might as well ignore your disc and play the ISO of the translated game.

Put it in your computer and play the disc via epsxe.

How come I hear Japs pronounce her name like "Yai"? Shouldn't it sound more like "Yay"?
