And Goro is cool. More fair than Kintaro or Motaro. Should have been the mayor instead of Shang Tsung. I believe he is playable in the Gameboy version.

To introduce a dangeous villain you have him beat the shit out of someone to establish the threat. Art Lean was a martial artist and a nice guy. So Goro killing him does double duty of establishing how impossible Goro is to beat and motivates Johnny Cage to want to fight him anyway.
