I found an semi-interesting thing within Silent Hill a few years back. In the Music Room at the school, there is a puzzle involving playing notes on a piano. The clue of the puzzle is written over a texture of sheet music on a blackboard. You can sort of make out the title of the sheet music if your playing on Playstation, but ultimately it's a lot easier to see if you run it on an emulator. Anyway, this is the screenshot I took just for reference.

The title reads: Don't trust anyone over thirty - Moonriders. A bit of googling revealed that it is an actual song. A pretty crappy one IMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-aA5MjO4UU

Dissatisfied with what I found, I dug a little deeper. Turns out the lead singer/guitarist for "Moonriders" is Keiichi Suzuki, one of the composers for Earthbound.

I guess someone at Konami was a fan.

Blissfags are the worst. It makes me roll my eyes every time I see someone say "Midnight Bliss forms should be playable in Darkstalkers 4!" Sure, and lets make electrocuted forms, burnt forms, basketball forms, cut in half forms, bee stung forms, cursed forms, execution finish forms, and inflated forms all playable too. Makes about as much sense. But I suppose it's a natural outcome of Capcom's handling of the series over the past decade plus. When it failed to live up to their expectations as a mainstream fighter, they decided it was good for nothing but otaku pandering, so now no one cares for it for anything but the fan service and waifus.

Hey /vr/ I'm not sure if this is the right place to bring this question but fuck it I'll give it a shot. I was emulating FF7 and my laptop crashed. I'm used to crashes because my cooling fan is dead. However when I restarted my laptop I kept getting a yellow screen. After taking my battery out and letting it sit for a few it returned to normal with some delay on start up. I read online that a yellow screen usually means your video driver is corrupt but it started up fine again. Has anyone had this issue emulating before? I'm using pSX v1.13 and a Rom from I think CoolRoms. Like I said I don't think this is the right place to bring this question but who knows.

There's this odd little melody that's been showing up in quite a few games over the years... The oldest example I've found of it is in Postal, released in 1997.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uicfTueJkeE

Since then, it's been in Max Payne (starting at 1:00):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpzfV8OtLHI

Half-Life 2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxLPnMrEvkM

Here's where it shows up in Half-Life 2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9o6MgSt55o

And lastly, in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTWWCpGpkoo

Anyone else find this interesting?

I dunno man, I much prefer controllers to a keyboard for virtually every genre.
Your reactions tend to be much faster on a controller, as the travel for the buttons is less, and combos in fighters (Among other things) are horrible to perform on a keyboard.

I'm not the guy you quoted, but hear me out.
The average travel time for buttons isn't too different on keyboards or controllers. The keyboard has larger buttons, but you can reach more of them at any given time.
In addition, all that class time in school spent getting your wpm up with Mavis Beacon translates perfectly to keyboard reaction time.

It's a very different style of control, but anyone proficient in touch typing will probably play better on a keyboard.

The problem being that keyboards have ghosting problems and directional inputs for keyboard in a fighting game are notably cumbersome for some advanced commands. Doing something like K9999's DM in KOF2k is not exactly ideal on a keyboard. It's also much more cumbersome to do some simple ones like charging Balrog's Turn Around Punch while still trying to fight using other buttons on a keyboard without the assistance of macros.

Moon Mountains, the bonus level that felt kinda out of place in Serious Sam TFE due to its lush green environments and completely out of place vegetation, was originally part of a jungle planet.

Whenever I used to read weird-ass theories about the Zelda games I used to think "nah, that can't be true." Then Nintendo released that Zelda Historia book and every crazy idea that the fanboys had come up with turned out to be true. Since then I see the Zelda universe as something far more deep and I think thrice before dismissing something I read as far-fetched.

Considering it shows up in a Silent Hill game, the music of which is indeed by Akira Yamaoka, that melody probably comes from a MIDI sample pack that a lot of different composers happen to be using.

Yamaoka is quite fond of using sample packs in his soundtracks, especially those distributed by Spectrasonic, East West, and Zero G.

While the sound itself makes it seem creepy-ish, I'd be willing to bet this is probably just something included in an audio library used by composers.

If you want an interesting, weird song that is apparently inserted into dozens of games in cryptic or intentionally obfuscated places check out Totaka's Song.

HL2 Doesn't seem to sample it though. It has the same effects but the melody is completely different.
