Do you have a physical collection?

I only buy copies of games I really like, not interested in having every title ever made on my shelf.

I collect the games I like and will actually play. I always cringe when I see someone with a wall of NES games. I don't understand why you'd purposely buy games that you know are shit, but want them as it'll make your collection bigger.
Maybe it's just because I store all my consoles and cartridge games in large plastic containers, but I don't understand displaying games and merchandise together.
>>6888476
This display is okay. You can immediately reach whatever game you want instantly. The placement of consoles and merchandise does not interfere with grabbing any game.

I'm not really into collecting for old consoles since i'm living in a pal region. I kinda try collect for region free consoles only but that doesn't mean i exclusively own only this one type of console or games

my rules for buying.

1. Can I emulate this as good if not better? if yes, no buy.

2. Can I play this on PC and is the port better? if yes then no buy.

I've bought a fuckload of 360 games in the past year because they're cheap, cant be emulated well, are exclusive to the console (or the only other system its on is ps3 which I have zero desire to own) the pc port is absolute shit, the pc port is de-listed and or the physical pc copies are impossible to play now thanks to MS bending over backwards to prevent runnin safedisc securom games.

I've also bought quite a number of ps4 games on the cheap lately.

but I dont buy retro games because why pay $200 for something I can easily emulate

I have a fairly large collection, somewhere between 100 and 130 titles between PS1, PS2, DC, GC, Xbox, and (not retro) games. I tend to buy games either when they're interesting, I really want them, or they're cheap, but I don't buy titles over $60. I had a bad habit of compulsive buying in college and have tried to get past that. I'm not a completion isn't by any means.

I ended up getting more into PS1 because of how trivial it is to back up the games. Something nice about having the physical copy and playing it at high res in Retroarch.

It will be seen as old. Retro means the debut of video games as a whole. 6th gen (and 5th gen arguably) are not the debut

>> No.6894334

>>6894285
Right, it's like how I explained - simpletons do not appreciate the full spectrum of the english language - they simple have their basic grunt words and any "fancy" words they replace with another. For example they don't discern between fight or altercation. They don't see a difference between dreary or gloomy. For them it is all the same. So when they found the word "retro" they looked to see what it meant and they decided that it was the same as "old", so that is what they believed, in their simple way of thinking and going about life.

We tried to explain it to them. We showed them that this wasn't the case and how it would make no sense especially in this context - and were successful for a while. But the thing about idiots is that telling them something a few times and explaining it to them is not always enough as over time they will forget what you said and they'll go back to the thinking that "durrr retro = old, old = retro durrrr" unless you keep at it. And I guess maybe we were slacking a bit or thought they weren't that retarded because this is what they did. Now here we are in retardland for good on this board.

>> No.6894364

>>6894197
>>6894312
How brain-damaged do you have to be to believe this? Is retro music the debut of music as a whole? Is retro clothing the debut of clothing as a whole? Thinking that the PS4 won't ever be retro is utterly delusional. Generally speaking:
Retro = 20-80 years old i.e. old, but still new enough that someone who's still alive might remember it
Antique = 80+ years old i.e. old enough no one that's still alive still remembers it
Not only is retro a moving target, but it's a moving target of finite size. Eventually the NES, SNES, PS1, etc, will no longer be retro and will move on to antique.

Holy fuck, can you not see what a cringey navel gazer you are? Yes, retro does essentially mean old. It's a bit more nuanced than that since it refers to old STYLES and things that use them more than the age themselves, but the 6th gen is OBJECTIVELY an old style by this point. Do modern consoles...
> Have memory cards?
> Have hard-wired controllers?
> Are designed for CRTs?
> Exist at the height of the 3d platformer craze?
> Have mostly low-poly games?
> Have little to no internet connectivity?
> Have the composition of genres that was popular in the early 2000s?
> Have the cultural attitude that was popular in the early '00s? (Think games like POP: Warrior within and Shadow the Hedgehog that are products of their time culturally speaking)
No? Then IT'S FUCKING RETRO. If the style has changed enough that it's markedly different than those of the past, then the old style is retro. Simple as. YOU are the one who is trying to redefine the word, not us. Retro has nothing, NOTHING, to do with "the origin of a medium" or whatever you psuedointellectual navel-gazers think it does.

Yes, for now.
My plan is to make a custom BOX for each collection.

For example: Retro PC collection, from MS-Dos and before to Win98/XP or even beyond. Big VHS BOX with personal boxart and the HDD fitting well inside.

Hentai box, with my 5 Terabytes of Hentai.

And then Game Pads... Each console will have it's own shelf with at least 2 gamepads, one of different colour.

Then everything will be behindd translucent crystals.
