My metal gear won't work. I am trying to play it on an FC twin and I hear those have compatibility issues sometimes.

I think it is much more likely this is a bootleg. This is my first time opening an NES cartridge but I'm fairly certain.

The outside case is really nice save for the sticker thats half torn off at the top.

The inside is suspiciously clean but the printed dates check out. Also a couple spots at the top look broken off. Is that normal?

>The inside is suspiciously clean
It's basically a sealed box. You're not going to have the inside dirty unless it was immersed in mud water.

>Also a couple spots at the top look broken off. Is that normal?

A lot of circuit boards are made from large sheets and broken off like that. It's normal.

The dates look good, the logo looks good, and all the soldering looks factory.

I got it at a retro game store, not some shady place. Who would go through the trouble of making a bootleg and sell it to a retro game store?

Maybe some sucker bought it on ebay and then suckered the game store and then suckered me.

but even the chip thats exposed to the outside was clean. The pins have no ware and tear.

When I try to turn it on there isn't even a colored screen. Could all the data be wiped by a magnet or something?

>I think it is much more likely this is a bootleg

Nope.

Just looked at mine, exactly the same.

It's easy to clean connectors. From the picture it looks like someone used a fine grit sandpaper. Not the best method, as it does do damage, but as long as you don't continue that trend it should be fine.

Clean the contacts yourself using alcohol and a q-tip. Just keep trying for a bit. Remove, insert, power, repeat as necessary.

Then its either wiped or the FC twin has problems. I'll try to get my NES working and get to the bottom of this.

q-tip is the first thing I did. I've tried it several times since.

Also thanks for the wikipedia list. That's helpful

maybe your fc twin is a bootleg

I don't really see why it wouldn't work unless there's something hidden. It's actually pretty hard to accidentally wipe one of these.

It could be something silly like not getting good contact because some idiot sanded the contacts down. Does pushing the cart forward or back when turning the twin on make any difference?

twisting doesn't seem to change anything and the pins do seem a little thin.

Did metal gear have one of those battery powered games save systems? My copy of kirby's adventure does the same thing though I can still get it to work sometimes.

It uses a password system, not a battery save.
