Controller is fine, but lack of inputs and a second stick was very short-sighted.
Looks and feels considerably cheaper than the other 6th-gen consoles.
90% of the library was just straight ports of arcade/PS1/N64/Windows games. These ports often controlled worse due to the lack of inputs.
Very few original games that actually broke new ground and felt truly next-gen, and most of those were ported/received superior sequels on the other 6th gen consoles.
Praised for being so experimental and "ahead of its time" when most of its experiments were rightful failures, and most aspects of the console were painfully shortsighted.
Objectively the weakest console of its generation; what very few next-gen games it had were outclassed by similar PS2 games within a year, let alone by GameCube and Xbox games.
Annoying, loud fanboys who shit on the PS2 unprovoked every chance they get.They also accuse you of being a Sony fan if you criticize it in any way. Seriously, look at any Dreamcast forum, it's insane how much of a pro-DC, anti-PS2 circlejerk they are. You don't see this anywhere near as often on the flip side of the coin.

I think the Dreamcast is a decent console. I'd much rather play it than go outside and play sports, but I can't conceive of it actually being someone's favorite console outside of nostalgia or hipster cred, and it doesn't deserve the near-holy status it has on the internet. I agree, it's a failure and by far the weakest console of its generation, mainly because of the GD-ROM format. I like the library a lot though, some quality ports and titles that also have that late 90s and early 2000s touch. Overall it feels like an intermediate between generations, as it picks some of the best things of the 5th and 6th. Very fun console indeed.

Actually, FF8 outsold Halo 2 and Melee, it's not the best example.
So instead, consider FF9. The worst-selling 3D Final Fantasy, released for the PS1 after both the DC and PS2 were already out, and on the same day as Skies of Arcadia.
Completely assraped that game in sales and outsold the long-awaited Sonic Adventure, fucking Sonic, 2 to 1.
Melee and Halo 2 outsold FF9. On consoles with a 5th of the install base of the PS1, one of which was a total newcomer.
Install base ain't an excuse Dreamcucks. People just didn't buy into the meme that was the memecast.
