Mostly agree with you except I think X4 is still a good game, although not better than the SNES ones. I was never wowed by Zero's gameplay in it, and the level design is really barebones compared to previous games.
You can also play X4 on Saturn btw (In fact, I recommend it)

X1 > X4 > X2 > X3 >> X5 >> X6 > X8 >>>>> X7
X1 is peak Megaman. X2 and X4 are fantastic but are spoiled by boring bosses and easy difficulty respectively, if these were fixed they could probably take the top spot. X3 is fine but just a bit rough around the edges. X5 is spoilt by the constant interuptions and the stupid laser system, but there's a good game buried in there. X6 shit, but masochists will find some enjoyment. X7 is just flat out awful. People praise X8 but I'm not a fan, it just seemed boring to me, at least with X6 you could break the game a bit.

I only played X5 as a kid and that was the only Mega Man I knew. As an adult, last year, I played the X games on a PS2 collection thing and I liked the first 3 the most. Except 1's final boss was poorly designed horseshit.

hmm its difficult to measure that.
X1 is a brilliant game.
X2 could be just as good but it improves everything a little, you can even ride a bike.
But then things only went downhill in the next games.

X8 was unexpectedly amazing but it arrived way too late and couldn't save the series.

>> No.6859537

X2 is shit either you didn't play it or are contrarian

>> No.6859552

If they do make an X9 I hope they don't play it as safe as MM11. Also would like it if the special weapons interacted with obstacles in the stages in ways other than "The obstacle is now destroyed" as well as having the order you go in change the stages in some way, think like X1.

Basically what I want is something other than Boss weapon weakness to consider when planning out my stage order.

How so? It's highly regarded almost as much as X1.
Though I did have a few problems with it. Mostly the sigma stages. On X1 they're fun as fuck but on X2 it's mostly empty spaces that mostly require you to do precise wall slide jumping, or that one vertical platform riding part, I hate that part although now I can go through it with relative ease, I struggled a lot there at first.
The Sigma fight was good though.
X2 is great, but still doesn't beat X1.

>> No.6859591

Overall:
X1=X2=X3>X4>X5>X6>>>>X7

Aesthetic:
X4>X2>X1>X3>X6>=X5 (I need to replay X6 again to better separate these two)

The SNES trilogy are the most fun games overall. X4 has the best feel, in my opinion. Maybe some people think the cutscenes are cheesy, but for me they add a whole lot to the experience and make the game seem like a bigger deal. The BGs are beautiful and a lot of the music is great.
I need to replay X8 since I think I've ok only ever played through it once.

>Why do you prefer X3 over X1?
It expands well on lot of things did right, some which X2 ignored. The huge amount of stuff to optionally collect, how epic the (possibly OP) powerups make you feel, the environmental effects returning from X1, the edgy music and graphics and dark atmosphere, and (like X2) the generally harder but more balanced difficulty than X1 (relatively easy game until Sigma fight, which is just time-consuming, unlike X2-3's, which feel much more skill based) is what makes me like it more.

X3's music has grown on me but it is definitely inferior to the other snes games and the ps1 games.
The powerups are neat but the golden armor giving you all the chips is kinda dumb, and you barely get to use the Ride Armor at all.
I'm also not a fan of the Arm Upgrade but I don't really like most of them (needing to sit still to fire the damn shot ruins a lot of the arm upgrades).

>> No.6860370

>>6860096
Different anon. But I feel that X3 is trying to have too going on at the same time and too much to collect. Good on them for trying to expand on various elements. But the game could have done without extra things like the Ride Armors I think. I mean aren't they only ever used to get more Ride Armors? To me the game feels like it's made out of a lot of great parts but they don't really fit together all that well, so the game feels less than the sum of its parts to me. The armor chips are a bit much too. If you want to get 100% how many times do you have to go through certain levels? I'd rather the design be such it's possible to get everything while visiting every stage only once and in all the times I've played X3 and seen others play it I've never seen that done.

Heatnix' music, intro music, and X's saber, as well. They should combine the good parts of X5 and X6 and they would be a really good game rather than X6 being a frustrating, mediocre game and X5 being a pile of trash.

I can understand the Ride Armor thing. They are really good designs but they are severely under utilized (especially in the case of Hawk, the best one). Fair point. I can also understand the arm upgrade being an issue, especially if you can't used to the combining shots mechanic in tense fights (but you're not forced to combine them as long as you get better at timing your shots, and the sabre combined with them makes up for any possible issue with this, anyway). Even If you strip away all the collectathon elements (including even some of the base upgrades, which you don't need to beat the game without much trouble, much less ANY of the chips), the core game is extremely good Mega Man X gameplay like the first two. The music is harder and tenser than either of the first two games and some of it is the greatest of all time, including Volt Catfish and Gravity Beetle, but then again, musical taste is mostly subjective, so you don't have to agree with me on this. Another thing I like that I forgot about is the open-ended story and bosses, including Vile and Doppler-stage bosses changing depending on Zero's condition. The backtracking complaint I still don't get, especially since the collectathon elements are unnecesssary. I don't mind any of the backtracking, since it takes barely any time, and especially since backtracking is required in ALL of the games (unless you use glitches or extreme maneuvers (which I have done as well, by the way; again, X1-2 are also two of my favorite games of all time)). The "long hallways" complaint, which neither of you brought up but is common, makes no sense and isn't a problem either way since there are a ton of enemies you have to learn to fight throughout them and dashing is a necessary skill to get good with (I still use the "clawed-A" default configuration). So, no problem if we disagree, but I hope that I sound reasonable for my reasons as to why I say this is the best game in the X series.

>But the game could have done without extra things like the Ride Armors I think. I mean aren't they only ever used to get more Ride Armors?
You are basically forced to use them to get the Hyper Armor, because they take hits for you. I agree that Kangaroo and Hawk should have had more designated uses, but the Chimera Armor (N) is basic on purpose.

Society made them that way. WHITE MEN forced them to be this way. They're trying to feed their families, for the love of! Dr. Cain is a fucking capitalist corporate CEO dictator and so it's fucking fair if they burn his racist property down (he has insurance so who the fuck cares?). X games are easier because you can climb on any wall instead of having to just jump on platforms. This means you don't fall in pits almost ever. Literally anyone can beat at least X2-3.

I never did like the arm upgrades in X3 either since to do that shot combining thing you're somewhat forced to stand completely still. The saber is nice but you get it so late it's really only useful for speeding up the boss rematches, I think each boss only needs two saber hits to go down, and to make Sigma ggez.

I'm not saying X3 is a bad game or anything, it's fucking great, I'm just saying I don't think it's as good as X1 or X2 because there's a lot of unnecessary fluff that makes the game less focused overall.
