It's amazing how much different the PS1's "personality" was at launch compared to a few years later. I love Jumping Flash but it feels odd compared to the typical fare of 1998 era PS1.

the playstation had no history, and 3D was brand new for most devs, so it's only natural that things start off one way then rapidly change into something more permanent

It's rare for that to happen though. I can't think of any other console, even ones with no history like the NES or Xbox, saw such a giant paradigm shift. I guess the PS1 was just on the cusp of a transition between an earlier era of gaming and a later one that was just starting to formulate and it got split down the middle.

What? Maybe you see things that way because you're thinking in terms of the NES's 1985 US release but when you look at early Famicom titles and then look at your average post-1986 NES game they're worlds apart.

Basic bitch choice, but I had lots of fun with Spyro and Crash. Both trilogies hold up super well. Used to go through Spyro 3 every Summer. Had Croc as well, but he couldn't stack up. Never passed the desert world; don't feel like I missed anything. Ended up getting Pac-Man World from a rental store who was getting rid of their PS1 games.

Found out about all those old arcade games through Namco Museum. The entries on other consoles always felt like they lost something on translation.

Frogger 2, Tekken 3, Bomberman World, and Speed Punks were good multiplayer games. The Rayman games were alright; my Dad liked the gloomier atmosphere of 2 (odd as he doesn't like games).

There's more, but this is a lot already.

Yes I wasnt thinking about the Famicom which launched looking more like the Colecovision but I wasnt in 1983 Japan to feel it personally. I'm also using "launch" loosely. More like "early life" rather than literal launch lineup.

1998, 15 years old. Parents have just split up. One Saturday afternoon my mother takes me to Dixons and we come home with the FFVII PlayStation bundle and Crash Bandicoot. I spend the rest of that weekend playing Crash; it was fun but I had already played Mario 64 by then so was mildly disappointed by Crash’s penned-in linearity. FFVII however seemed ... different. The cover art, with its stylised typeface and stark white background ... what even is this game? I was slightly intimidated, having never encountered a proper JRPG before. I put the disc in. That enigmatic, melancholic theme starts up. This is ... intriguing, I guess? I enter my name and the opening FMV begins. I impatiently wait for it to end and begin to wonder if I’d made a mistake getting this console. Finally the game starts. Where’s my weapon? Oh, it must be like Zelda where you start unequipped and have to find a sword somewhere. Then SWOOOOSH and my first battle begins. What IS this? It’s turn based? Why can’t I move? Do I like this? Is this ... fun? After an hour or so, I turn the game off. I don’t get it. Some weeks later, I decide to try that unusual game out just once more. I was off sick from school, wrapped up in my diva with my back propped up against the head of the bed, a grey, dull autumn day outside my window. Something happened that day. Something clicked. Was it the music? Was it the graphics? Was it the character development or how the narrative was unfolding? Was it the way in which I could level up my party and customise their magic, weaponry and armour? Something drew me into that world and enraptured me like no game had ever done before. I was hooked. My first Final Fantasy game and my first JRPG experience. There’s no turning back now. Things will never be the same again.

I've been replaying the original RE lately and it's still as good as I remember. Looking forward to going through the rest of the PS1 games, even gonna give gun survivor a shot. Only played the awful US version as a kid, going to find out if it's better with guncon support. It can't really be worse lol

Really? I had trouble with that when I was young, but not as much anymore. Just make sure to feed them when they're hungry and shit in the toilet when they need to go.
Much of the game is actually spent training, and you could get a Numemon if your stats aren't high enough for your Digmon's age. A good goal is to try to train your Rookie Digimon to have at least 100 in all stats and 1000 in HP and MP. You're almost guaranteed to get a decent Champion Digimon that way.
Make sure to pick up mushrooms and remember the mushroom locations. You can save up on food by feeding baby Digimon mushrooms instead of meat. Get your meat every day, and try to recruit Palmon + Vegimon as soon as possible to get access to more filling meat. You should be able to recruit Palmon soon after you train your first Rookie or Champion.
Happiness and discipline can be balanced pretty easily if you're properly caring for your Digimon. Don't actually use the praise and scold commands except for when your Digimon refuses to eat something. When your Digimon refuses to eat something, you can increase both your discipline and happiness if you scold.
When your Digimon is tired (as indicated by the water drop), either take your Digimon to Punimon in Jijimon's house to rest or take it to Unimon's clinic if you have that unlocked.
Hope this helps.

I am from Mexico and many of the memories I had with the ps1, the most were at the house of a cousin who had the console with the modchip at '97 every weekend he invited me to play and so I met many games on day 1 (pirates).
like resident evil 2.3
king of fighters, tony hawk and metal gear solid, by the time my parents gave me my own console, I already knew what games were worth it, and I also discovered others on my own like silent hill, castlevania sotn, megaman etc, those were the days, Then when I was a teenager the dreamcast and ps2 blew my mind

I thought the same thing. According to https://www.oocities.org/TimesSquare/1376/release.html it came out well after the launch in July of 96. Also found an atariage comment from 2005 that says Aquanaut's Holiday was the first standard jewel case game, that cover in the OP image looks like it was stretched vertically in photoshop
