Crusin' USA is a game that I didn't care for when I first played it on an N64. To be honest, at the time of it's N64 release, the gameplay in Crusin' USA felt dated compared to many of the other arcade racers in mid 1995. Crusin' USA really plays like an old school "into the screen" scaling sprite racer. But over time, I did enjoy playing this one more.

My biggest problem with the arcade version (and most of Midway/Raw Thrills' other racing games) is that they will blatantly steal first place from you sometimes if "free game for first place" is enabled. A goddamn car (or jetski, in Hydro Thunder) moving at impossible speeds WILL pop up out of nowhere on the final stretch if the game decides it's not time to hand out a free game yet. It's more blatant after Cruis'n changed its name to Fast and Furious, because they'd have impossibly long turbos.

Cruis'n and The Fast and the Furious are literally the same series. They just had to use a different title because the Cruis'n license was still at Midway when the remains of their arcade division split off into their own thing. Since Nintendo owned the name, that's why they were able to use it for the Wii port. Fast and the Furious is the fourth game in the series. Cruis'n Blast is the seventh.

I can't remember if I'm thinking of this game, 2049, or some Sega racer, but the arcade version had a weird-ass drift system where you had to screw with the gas pedal in order to drift. You had to first activate the drift and lift your foot, then slowly reapply pressure to adjust the angle of your drift and floor it once it was at the angle you wanted. No idea how that translated to consoles (or even if it was this game).

If I remember correctly all the San-Fransico Rush arcade cabinets have clutches for advanced manual controls. though the clutch is actually completely optional. As just shifting the gears without use of the clutch will still work, like any other arcade racer. But the clutch is there if you manually want to control it yourself. Plus it also works as air control when jumping.

II think Crusin' arcade has a clutch too?

I've honestly never seen a Cruis'n arcade cab in person. I guess this one is more in line with an old school arcade game like Out Run. To some degree.

>> No.6855839

San Francisco Rush the Rock - Alcatraz Edition is one of my favourite arcade racers from that decade. San Francisco Rush arcade sit down cabs were pretty common to find, Rock upgrades were a little harder to come by.
