What are some recommendations on iconic/influential NES games/series that aren't:
Castlevania
Metroid
Duck Tales
Megaman
Kirby
Batman
Zelda

Also, which TMNT games are better played on arcade or NES?

>TMNT games are better played on arcade or NES?
Only TMNT2 has an arcade counterpart, while it is more visually standing in arcade, the extra levels make the NES worth a playthrough.
TMNT3 is 100% NES-only.

I'll second this.
Also the whole Adventure Island series. Some of the best platformer games ever made, and rather forgotten by modern players. I rarely see them on NES top lists, yet to me, Adventure Island 2 or 3 are easily up there with SMB3

Not sure about SNES, but for NES any good 240p tv should do. Get a trinitron. I emulate and use a PC CRT, looks gorgeous.

It's literally impossible to name a game that hasn't been mentioned before. It's the most scratched nostalgia a record ever. Even one of the most off the beaten path games is still not a hidden gem unless you are living under a rock.
Nevertheless,

Little Nemo
Jackal
Gun-Nac
Journey to Silius
Rush'n Attack
Little Samson
Legendary Wings
Ninja Gaiden II
Niji no Silkroad

Literally any 'top 100 nes games' google search will serve you right.

I trust people that actually play the games more than some kotaku soiboys. And I'm actually after the popular games, got into NES games a short while ago. I started chronologically, but these games were more obscure.

Pic related is basically 1st person Star Fox with a Light Gun. If you have a CRT, I highly recommend it. Could never get past the 3rd level or so as a kid.
